I really like the CTS nav system with on exception. I wish I could pick "Full Map" (as shown here) and still see XM or iPod song info - like maybe at the bottom of the screen or something. Either way, it's not a deal breaker.
I've been driving this car for about one week straight and I cannot find anything significant to complain about - it is truly a terrific car.
The odometer is approaching 20k and there are no rattles or squeaks to note. The nav screen does make a little noise when it goes up and down but it seems like it only happens when the temp gets below, say 60 degrees.

No rattles or squeaks? What happened to the plethora of squeaks and problems mentioned here: http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2008/08/2008-cadillac-cts-v6-di-noisy.html ? If they actually don't exist or are extremely minor, please let us know! Discrepancy between blog posts makes it difficult to make up one's mind about the car.

i don't hear buzzing or rattles - the nav screen can make noise moving up and down at startup but that's it. I think the car's build quality is very good and would gladly own or reccomend it without reservation.

I've read elsewhere that the leather seats in the CTS are very creaky. Maybe some consider that a "squeak or rattle," but some just say "hey, that's the leather creaking, that's not a squeak or a rattle of loose interior bodywork"?
After all, the first two "squeaks or rattles" in the previous post were the driver's seat and the front passenger seat.
I personally wouldn't put creaking leather on the same level as a rattling piece of the dashboard, but maybe for some other people they're equally annoying.

Good to hear the earlier rattles went away. Sometimes interior rattles can go away on their own. They are also sometimes dependent on temperature and humidity (cold, dry air tends to cause more interior rattles than warm, humid hair).

air, I meant - LOL

Technically speaking, warm humid hair could cause LOTS of rattling, no?

Was Magrath leading an anti-GM crusade when he wrote that post? I didn't believe him when he wrote it, and now you've given me more reason to discredit the post. The CTS is truly a world-class car, and the icing on the cake is that not only is it gorgeous, but it's a Cadillac!

I really like the CTS as I think Cadillac did an excellent job executing the whole package. They basically took the prevous CTS's positive attributes, amplified them, fixed/improved the bad stuff, added some bling and this is the end result. Im glad to see Cadillac design a Cadillac and not another BMW chaser(G37). Its unique, bold, classy and easily identifiable as a Cadillac.
If GM ever gets back on their feet Id really like to see an entry level Cadillac positioned below the CTS, rwd of course. Maybe about the size of a 3 Series and use existing drivetrains from the CTS.

Some people have different tolerances for NVH, and weather, road, and driving conditions all play a part.

Stovt001, that may be true but with todays materials an advanced construction techniques squeaks and rattles should not be a part of the package regardless of brand or price.
When I purchased my Acura CL-S 6MT back in 2003 it had a sunroof rattle which was a known issue and was repaired by the dealer with some tape of all things. Our 2005 Odyssey Touring didnt rattle upon the initial purchase but did surface and stayed for nearly 2 years. Theres still the occasional noise from he rear of the van and I cant seem to track it down. Good thing its not consistent.
The strangest thing is that our 2002 S2000 or our old 1995 Honda Civic sedan have yet to emit a rattle or at least had any that caught my attention. I find it ammusing that a convertible and an old heavily modified economy sedan dont rattle. I purchased the 1995 Civic new in 1994. The 2002 S2000 was purchased in 2005 although it only had 3700 miles on the dial.

My 1999 Civic (which I owned from 2003 to 2006) used to rattle like it was about to fall apart. To its credit, it never did--it was remarkably reliable--but it sounded like every single interior panel was loose.
I think rattles are, to a major degree, luck of the draw, not tied to a specific manufacturer or model.

I find it interesting how if a Cobalt or a Caliber, or a Focus rattles, people complain about it constantly and deem the car a total pile of American crap. Yet when a Honda or Toyota rattles, its OK, and nobody complains.
