The Evo MR has got some nice, racy Recaros. But these well-bolstered, yet comfy seats, are non-height adjustable and close to the deck. Combined with the rear headrests and the rear wing, the view out the back is at times sketchy. This is true especially at night, where it's difficult to determine what type of vehicle may be following you, say, for example, a Crown Vic. Or a Crown Vic with a light bar.

I never realized how much that spoiler would restrict your visibility.
mazdaspeed_jon says:

I think the only car that was ever worse than that for rear window visibility was the Neon SRT-4. I drove my friend's a few times and it was as if Dodge designed that useless spoiler to be right at mirror level. You couldn't even see if there was a car behind you, let alone if that car had a light bar.

Not a repost. Previous Wing-themed post was in regard to whether or not an automatic car wash brush would sheer it off or not.

This was mentioned with the GTS, same wing problem, constantly mentioned actually.

VW is smart in the fact that they can make a great looking wing spoiler that is a reasonable height. in fact, it is only an inch or two above the trunk. the ironic thing is that it is called the "Euro WING Spoiler," and yet is about ¼ the size of that misplaced biplane wing on the backs of the GTS and Evo.

I don't know why they put this wing on the car. It is so big, it looks stupid, and lessens rear visibility. What is there to like in it?
firstwagon says:

Because it's intended to be the street version of the rally car and the rally car version has one... so the street version gets one too.
Judging by the number of wings I see on cars that never came with them, I'm guessing a lot of people do like them (not me though).

It must be just me that thinks the headrests of the front seats look ridiculous and either over-engineered or over-styled.

Those seats are nice, though. Recaros are an option on the Japanese and European-market STIs, but not here. :(

Big wing, part of it's charm, personality.
Whale tail on a 911 anyone?

Have you seen the wing (and hood scoop) on the previous generations STI (no pun intended)? Well, that's a wing … But I guess Evo/STI buyers actually don’t mind as it is part of those cars charm. Hard to accept by a Camcord buyer I guess.
I think a wing, any type or size, is much more ridiculous on a Civic or Corolla, and there are quite a few of them out there, sold as OEM accessories.
sgude says:

This wing is completely stupid-looking. It doesn't really even fit the car, because it looks so... so... factory. The wing on the Evo VIII and IX looked more "tuner." I actually would have less trouble dealing with that one -- which looked bigger -- than this.
ibognar, the whale tail on the 911s didn't restrict visibility.

IMHO, the best looking factory wings are on the Honda Civic SI and the Audi TT with pop-up spoiler.

The wing is like a the middle headrest in the back of VWs....at first, it seems to block everything. After driving with the car for a few times, it becomes a non-issue and you never think of it again.

I removed the middle headrest on my Jetta about 3 minutes after I got it home. It stayed in my trunk for 7 years and put it in maybe 4 times for middle passengers. Blocked my view and looked stupid.

The "current" STI doesn't have this problem, as the more subdued wing is now a roof spoiler, and doesn't hinder rear visibility.
The Recaros are nice—for skinny people. Too bad the side bolsters can't be adjusted to fit those with a larger body frame. Also, I wonder just how comfortable they will be on a long trip? Sure, they're great on a race track, but I'm not so sure about "living" with them on a day-to-day basis? Not sure the wife would appreciate the extra effort needed in getting out the deeply bolstered seat when she's out running errands?

Redliner - You like the wing on the 06+ Civic SI? You just made my day... :) I would prefer mine without a wing, but whatever :)
To everyone else: Maybe it's just the photo, but those "recaros" have incredibly cheap looking "leather".
I do like the looks of those thigh supports though. I imagine they'd keep me cozy :)

no auto dimming mirror in this $40k car? Unbelievable. The 3 has an auto dimming mirror.
If you are going to have a pointless middle headrest in the rear it needs to be the kind that can be retracted almost flush with the top oc the backseat.

Yes, our MR costs $41,765. But it's based on an $16K car. I'm still trying to like it.

As Jon said, the wing on the SRT-4 is truly one of the worst designs of all time. When I had the wing on my car (it's wrapped up in microfiber clothes and bubble wrap in my attic now) I'd have to duck down or stretch my neck up to see what was behind me. Unless you're going at speeds over 110mph (which I've done all of twice) it does absolutely nothing and looks ricer-ish. The PVO looks much better.

That's not my car (mine's yellow), but it's too bad there isn't a comparable version that Mitsubishi has as an option.

Im amazed on the percieved size of this car. Today I saw an Evoltution parked next to a late model Buick LeSabre and I swear the Evo looked larger.

Yes well features are one thing that separate an expensive version of a model from a lesser version. I dont think it's hard to add an auto dimming mirror when converting the $16k car to a $41k car. Of course no one cares because its the EVO. Let a $25k domestic car show up without bluetooth or a $2k navigation system and people will be having a fit and acting like they can't bare to drive a car without those features.

I think its because of how high sided it is. At least, thats how it appears to me.
