Our CX-9's auto up/down function for the driver's window is malfunctioning. It still goes up and down, but pushing through the usual auto detent does nothing. You have to hold it in order for the window to get all the way open or closed. Woe is me. How did we ever function without auto up/down? Luckily the passenger side auto/up is still working. Maybe we can move the steering wheel.

Have you tried resetting it? Put the window down and hold the button for a few seconds after it's all the way down; put the window up and do the same thing.

My Infiniti does the same thing. You have to reset it once a week. I just live without it now. It is fourteen years old though.

I agree about it being a simple reset. In most of the cars with this feature, you would have to reset it if you disconnect the battery or there's some abnormal surge. It should be mentioned in the manual.
Try resetting it & let us know if it worked.

As mcloffs and wobbly_ears mentioned, be sure to try resetting it first. mcloffs said it pretty succinctly/accurately, but the exact procedure is listed in the manual. I've had to reset mine a couple of times after the battery was disconnected while the car was being serviced.

Did you take the battery cable off? Just lowering it a bit and pulling it back up until you hear a click should reactivate the auto up/down.

im sure its cheaper to fix it than move the wheel(i know duhh)
but if u did you would complain about the passenger one not working

Hey, maybe you guys should try to reset it?...

Have you tried resetting it?
Maybe if we get enough people to state the same thing it'll mean something....

I need to put in my reset post too.
Continue to hold the window "up" button for 10 seconds after the window has already completely closed.
Who will be the lucky number 10 reset poster??

This also happened to my Mazda6 once. After I disconnected the battery, I can't auto-up/down the window.

Why on earth would you need to "reset" a window switch?
cx7lover says:
05:36 PM, 09/ 5/08
Because, you need to reset it, is it a problem for you firstwagon?
billt9 says:
06:55 PM, 09/ 5/08
Ya. Is that a problem for you firstwagon?
Then maybe you should just not reset it, and not have auto up and down, and not have to worry about it again, because you don't have auto up and down. Which will be fine too, if you don't like auto up and down, and you don't want to reset.
I like auto up and down. And I reset.
Reset your windows today.
Do you reset?
firstwagon says:

Is it a problem? Duh!
It's a SWITCH. You don't reset switches. You can reset a computer control but why would you need a computer control for a window switch.
My Subaru is 18 years old, has auto down on the drivers side and never needs to be reset because it's a mechanical SWITCH.
cx7lover says:

You're ignorant if you think resetting a switch after power loss is a problem.
FYI
THIS IS AN ELECTRIC SWITCH!
mcloffs says:

Firstwagon, it has to be reset because newer power window setups have pinch protection -- i.e., if the window is going up and has any resistance (a finger getting caught between the window and the frame, for instance) it automatically reverses itself. Because of this, sometimes the windows need to be reset (usually after a power loss) so the function works properly.

Your Subaru doesn't have auto UP AND down?
It only has auto down?
I see that's why you're not part of the Resetter's Club.
There is no mechanical linkage. On the bottom side this modern switch pods are 3 electrical wiring plug, where 3 set of electric wiring harnesses plugs into it, leading off to a computer brain.
And there's 3 plugs just because the brain is so smart. So smart that it thinks too much and sometimes it needs a reset.

Subaru window switches still don't have auto up functionality, billt9. =Þ
I think what people were trying to say is that the window switch should be reinitialized, not "reset." Reinitialization is actually done to the window motor, not the swtich.
Schmidt's previous magic on the G35 could possibly work on the CX-9.

This is too weird. After I read that the traction control in my 2009 Mazda 6 must be reset each time the battery is disconnected, by turning the steering wheel all the way left then all the way right, I could believe that the window auto functions might require reset. My passenger window would not go up nor down automatically after being disconnected briefly. Turned out to be true, saving me a trip to the dealership. Holding the button down after opening all the way, then up after closing all the way fixed it. Seems a section of the manual could be devoted to a list of these reset functions. There are probably many.
