2008 Mazda CX-9: Showing Some Crack

Mazda Window Crack.JPG

This will seem totally trivial and lame to some while a few others will get why I think this one feature is cool.

The CX-9 has the one-touch feature for both front windows - that's one touch down AND up. A nice feature for sure, but there's one other thing that I really like. If you tap the window switch, just tap it, the window will open with a pre-set gap. For those who occasionally like to "crack" the window a bit it's great. Excellent attention to detail Mazda - now make the ride a little softer so I can love the rest of the car.

It's a minor thing, but I absolutely love this feature, since I use it at work all through the summer. My car has it on all four windows, and it's very handy to know that I'm covered for ventilation by just tapping the 4 buttons.

On my car, you can also roll down the windows as you approach the car by holding down unlock on the key fob, and I'd imagine the CX-9 is the same way. It lets the car cool off considerably before you get in.

The CX-9 has that feature, it opens the sunroof too if equipped.

I would want them to improve the ride if it didn't adversely effect handling. If it turned into another soft roader it would lose what they're all about and lose one of it's major reasons to buy it.

handling? I've got to think about how many times that came up this week... I'll get back to ya.

lol

The general agile feel of the CX-9 is only there thanks to it's tuning. "softening it up" will effectively soften the handling. That's one of the main reasons why people are buying the CX-9, it all comes together with the space, V6 performance, and styling. Why would you take away the ZOOM ZOOM? It doesn't get through the slalom any better than the Triplets, it all comes down to how it feels. If you want a softer ride the CX-9 is not for you, they're plenty of other CUV's on the market with the soft ride you desire, buy one of those.

I like the Saturn Outlook and Enclave better than the CX9. However, i just got into the Hyundai Veracruz and I have to say the Mazda's engine and transmission combo is very compelling compared to the Hyundai.

I wish the Enclave was a tiny bit smaller - although the CX9 isn't small, it drives smaller than the Buick/Saturn/GMC. That part of zoom zoom i like.

The windows are the sort of cool feature that has no real value but still reminds you everyday that someone put some extra thought into the details.

Score for Mazda.

"I like the Saturn Outlook and Enclave better than the CX9."

I think if I were looking for a large crossover SUV, the GMC Acadia and the CX-9 would be on the top of my list.

"The windows are the sort of cool feature that has no real value but still reminds you everyday that someone put some extra thought into the details.

I agree.

Of all the comparisons between Enclave and CX9, this is the first feature I've seen that I'd like to see in my Enclave.

Mazda deserves a score PLUS bonus points!

After reading the title and looking at the picture, I thought the post was going to be about the large panel gaps visible in the front.

Those panel gaps may have more to do w/ the light color and bright daylight when the pic was taken. Judging only by this pic, it ain't pretty.

this is something more vehicles should have. you NEVER read about this kind of stuff in normal road tests because they focus more on handling limits and 0-60 times. Most people buying this type of vehicle could care less about that stuff. Its a shame that reviews arent tailored to the audience of a particular vehicle. The GT-R and CX-9 shouldnt have similar types of reviews.

The panel gaps on the exterior are pretty tight.
