Last night I pulled in my driveway after a pleasant drive home and watched the odometer on our long-term 2008 Buick Enclave click exactly 22,000 miles. Brought a tear to my eye. Not really, but I thought I'd give the haters out there something to comment on.
Anyway, the power steering problem, which as been the truck's only reliability hiccup, is fixed and everything on the vehicle seems to feel as new. Brakes, suspension, engine, transmission? It all feels good. Even the SUV's tires still look new.
And we're not finished yet. We've only had the Enclave since November first, which means there's still three full months left on this 12 month test. We'll keep you posted, meanwhile I'll continue my quest to acclimate to the Buick's fuzzy cloth seats. Who the hell ordered this thing without leather anyway?

What's your main issue with the cloth? Is it cheap and/or ugly, or do you just prefer leather? Personally after three years of owning my first car with leather seats, I'm over it. We only got leather - and a whole bunch of other nonsense options - because the second row bucket seats we wanted were only available in the top of the line trim level. I really like that the Enclave offers second row buckets with cloth, like minivans do.

Also, I'm jealous that it was only 68 degrees in August, wherever you were. This unbearable Texas heat is the main reason I am despising leather at the moment.

Hater reporting...
Man that fake wood trim looks tacky and nasty around the gauges.

The readout looks so old and the wood is fake. Leather would do some justice but be ready for some toasting.

the wood trim reminds me of the 80's lincoln and mercury boat cars, it's the same bland wood finish, color and everything

Amen Scott, that cloth looks terrible. I've seen good looking cloth but it wasn't on the Enclave.

wood looks fine.
old school read out? has bmw updated its gauges in the past 20 years?
oh I forgot, a bmw label makes it clasic and simple.
readout looks fine and blends well with all other dials

I hate the wood surround in the VW Passat too, it's just too much.

The teal-blue glow of the gauges attracts your eyes so intensely us Enclavers don't really see the surrounding wood or aluminum trim.
As for leather seats in Texas, I agree wholeheartedly. When I lived in Ft. Worth I had to buy one of those NYC taxicab beaded seat covers for my '98 Lincoln Mark VI LSC because I would stick to the leather like a belt buckle to Wranglers.
By the way, those beaded seat covers, while immensely tacky, actually felt quite good. And they left a fabulous pattern on the leather seats when I sold the beast.

Buick went a little overboard with the wood grain. It would look better in more limited use.
The center display looks like an old VCR, but the same coloring makes the gauges look great.
ahightower, this picture was taken at night (evidence by the text "Last night..." and the darkness outside the car in the photo. Its been hovering in the high 60s/low 70s in the LA area at night lately. It would be great during the day, but those temps at night following a hot day aren't so much fun. It could be worse though.

I think the blue back lighting looks better in real life, but I will never understand the appeal of wood in cars.
Cloth > leather in any environment.

I personally like the lighting, fake wood, and displays a lot. Tons better than the old stuff in many Toyotas and Hondas. Still, lol @ louiswei, er, hater! :D

I wonder what % of Enclaves were purchased with cloth. My guess is that most are sold with leather. Not sure why IL wanted a stripper Enclave when its supposed to be a luxury vehicle. That would be like getting a Lexus with cloth. Yes leather isnt standard on the lower models but you rarely see any Lexus on the road without leather.

Well, you can't actually see outside the car in that photo. But I figured it was taken at night. Still pretty nice. It's still 90-something at 10:00 PM here. Yuck.

Cloth is the best part of this truck. Leather seats are disgusting, uncomfortable and slippery.

I am sorry but leather is standard on every single one of the Lexus models.

That wasnt always the case. That must have changes within the last couple of years. Leather used to be optional on the IS and ES and perhaps the RX.

If you want to talk about history and there are a lot we can talk about.
How about starting with GM in the 80s...

I understand you are super sensitive to any perceived criticism of Toyota/Lexus but my comment wasnt even a slight. I was merely saying that no one wants a Lexus without leather and most people dont want an Enclave without leather. Just relax. if you want to talk about GM from the 80s be my guest. Somehow you have convinced yourself that I will lose sleep if you tell me you think GM's 80s vehicles were crap. I could care less, trust me. My parents had an '86 Chevy and it lasted for 12 years before they sold it. I'm sure there car was the only one like that though.............

PS.
The lexus without leather phenomena is hardly ancient history. This was the case only a few years back. Not sure how that relates to GM 25 years back.

Funny how Enclave blogs tend to get hijacked.
The speedo hit 22k. How many of us remember when our speedo turned a milestone number?
My '86 GTI turned 100k at the 205 mile marker on Interstate 71 (heading south). That was nearly 20 years ago but I remember it like yesterday.

If you mean your point you are 100% correct. Instead of leaving cryptic rhetorical questions why not just make your point. I am still lost as to why you jumped to Lexus defense when they weren't being criticized.
