2008 Cadillac CTS DI: City boy

Cadillac CTS.jpg

Although the Cadillac CTS is a supreme highway cruiser, it really enjoys the city life. The sharp, agressive styling stands out in the metropolitan streets, and imparts a sense of urban cool on its owner.  "Where's my car?" I asked the valet after already waiting for 15 minutes. "Sorry, sir, what vehicle was that?" he said. I proudly replied, "Red Cadillac."  Ten years ago, perhaps my response would have carried some embarrassment. But no longer. It was nice to not answer the valet with the trite BMW/Benz/Lexus response. The CTS confidently plays in the bigs with this trio. My only styling beef is with the wheels: they scream "Geez!"

I love this car, but I would likely get it in a color other then this red. From the angle in the photo above, the first thing that jumped to my mind was the profile of a Ford Fusion.

Any valet that keeps you waiting for 15 minutes is bad news.

whats wrong with the 18s? They look OK to me. The base rims are terrible however.

Hahaha.. look at that ugly DTS!

The shade does nothing for the CTS. I'd take black, blue, white or the Thunder Grey over this color any day.

The DTS says Cadillac more than the CTS.

The CTS says "I'm a BMW Wannabe!"

The DTS says "I dig big American Luxury cars and I don't care about the rest of the world's "benchmarks."

What does the term "Luxury" mean anymore?

Looks like you took a wrong turn and ended up at bingo night.

I think the CTS's wheels are nice enough. At any rate, their far nicer than the chrome plates on that DTS.

altima -

Thanks for your comments.
But I do think the CTS does have an urban cool vibe about it.
Does any BMW have this, especially the ubiquitous, yuppie-mobile, the 3-series? I think not.

They really are. I've only seen a few CTS' with the 18 inch rims, and the ones without them really do look awful.

Ewilfong -- What is wrong with a car that caters to the older generation? They buy cars too, don't they?

And, I'm 27.

Snake Doc -- I agree that BMW has lost it's premium status (even in Florida). But the CTS is like a Pimp-My-Ride-bling-it-out version of BMW. It's not an American car at all. It's a me-too European car with a Hip-Hop work-over.

What's European about the CTS? I can't find one aspect that reminds me of a single European vehicle.

Altimadude, not a thing. But Cadillac really wants my money (I'm 33), and they're not getting it with their present lineup, CTS possibly excepted.

Does the DTS still require permission from the Harbor Master before you park it?

"But the CTS is like a Pimp-My-Ride-bling-it-out version of BMW. It's not an American car at all. It's a me-too European car with a Hip-Hop work-over."

Some might argue that the Pimp-My-Ride bling of the CTS is one of the aspects that makes it uniquely American.

Cadillac has that bling stigma because of the Escalade.

there is nothing me too about the CTS. its a wholely American take on a luxury sports sedan. It doesnt look like a European car inside or out.

"Cadillac has that bling stigma because of the Escalade."

that stigma exists in the minds of certain people. There is no stigma in my mind because I already know the majority of Escalades are purchased by upper income suburbanites, not rappers. If you are one that believes that rappers and athletes a) make up the majority of Escalade owners and b)are figures to be derided than you likely believe there is a "stigma" associated with Cadillacs. Cadillacs were about chrome and high visibility long before rap was invented. Cadillacs were at their peak in terms of pop culture in the 50s and 60s.

LOL, you can over analyze it all you want but the media has attached a bling image to Cadillac, they do sell to upper class people but it was never widely associated with bling bling before the rappers put them on 22's and put them in their music videos.

rappers had Range Rovers and German cars in videos long before Escalades. Either way, I'm pretty sure Cadillac would rather have exposure in pop culture than be like Lincoln or Acura.

I just can't get over that red! I love red, but Cadillac has always had that old lady lipstick red color that's now just an awful stereotype to me. It's a pretty color and it's usually very well finished...but sheez, what happened to that deeper cinnamon that offered at the end of the old CTS' run?
