This morning I dropped the Buick Enclave back at Santa Monica Chevrolet Buick to fix the ailing power steering that's kept the big Buick sidelined for the past few days.
They said they'd have an idea of the problem by this afternoon. We'll keep you posted when we get any news.

Hey the Chevy/Buick dealer look nicer then the $160/hr Audi stealer!

I have an idea of the problem. Let's hope Buick doesn't read the blogs and get the same idea. Although, I would love to follow a voided warranty tale. I imagine one whiff that it's Edmund's car and that wouldn't be a problem like it can be for us regular folks. (not sure if GM has warranty issues, but many brands/dealers will do anything to void a warranty these days)

Driving a car on a dirt road should not void warranty.

I agree with Doug.

In common sense land it shouldn't. It was a little more than an innocuous dirt road though. The legal dept decides where the line is between user abuse and normal usage. They could try to void it if they find the component filled with dust and dirt from 'off-roading'.

That means the P/S pump was faulty in the first place, no way in hell should it ever be filled with that, It shouldn't even work at all with that dirt in it.

For those on the West Coast and don't know, there are a lot of country dirt roads in the mid-west like the one pictured in the post before. Those kinds of roads would not void warranties.

There are plenty of roads like that here too if you get away from the cities (I'm talking about the outer edges of the San Francisco Bay Area, usually either in the hills or around farmland).
Good luck.

Plus Edmund's never said how fast they were driving on that dirt road. For all we know they were doing a 10 mph creep out of concern for the Enclave. That's not abuse. That's also probably not what they were doing, but whatever... :)

That is one hot-looking two-tone brown Rendezvous!

Thing is, there were other vehicles on that dirt road that were probably driven similarly. Did they suffer steering failure or problems, out of curiousity?

As you'd expect, the two other support vehicles have suffered no ill-effects of the dirt road.

Nice Two-tone Rendevous spotting!
I just got back (literally, I can't sleep) from a 8-day 2,350 mile round trip in my Enclave. I now have 20,650 on the odo and the car just turned 11 months old.
This is a highway cruising machine at its finest. I have a Thule Mountaineer strapped to the roof so the whole family could bring all their stuff (see: George Carlin on "stuff").
Ripping through the West Virginia and Smokey Mountains at 85+ for hours on end, the fully-loaded Big Buick rewarded me with 20.8 mpg. It also rewarded me with no shoulder, back or neck pain after double-digit hours in the seat. The articulating headlamps really point the way when diving into a high speed highway curve. The heated windshield washer fluid really helps get the bugs off. And the trip computer accurately detailed gas consumption within .1 to .3 gallons on every fillup.
We had a little wind noise from the Thule at about 65mph on up, but not enough to be bothersome or annoying.
The power steering pump is performing flawlessly. For all you GM bashers piling on because of one failure detailed here, my good experience should help to reassure you.
This car oozes comfort, convenience, luxury and style. I also suspect most of us Enclavers are not planning on taking the car off road.
Enclavers. Can I trademark that?

In the shop for 8 days, and still not repaired?

Maybe the dealer is still looking for Mr. Goodwrench (12 days and counting...)
