So far our new Escort 9500i Passport radar detector has been on three cross country runs. It has gone from Detroit to Los Angeles on the windshield of our long term Dodge Grand Caravan, Atlanta to Los Angeles suction cupped to out long term Audi R8 and now it has gone from Los Angeles to Wendover, Utah and back stuck to our long term Toyota Tundra.
That's about 6,500 miles of driving.
Number of tickets issued: Zero.

Any idea how many "saves" its had? Like when it went off and you slowed down, and then saw a cop w/ a radar gun 15 seconds later...

Do the drivers of the LT cars (without the radar detector) get tickets on a regular basis?

I always thought a great, low budget speed detector was just to not speed. I've been using that method since I started to drive and I've yet to been pulled over for speeding once.

Seriously, what is the deal with Scott & this radar detector? Nary a week goes by without him obliging us with another fawning post about this radar detector! Does he get in trouble with Highway police often?

Have you seen a few of his photos of speedometers in action?

is the radar detector bought or sponsored? Also, isn't these king of gadgets on a decline since police is now using laser speed detectors? Why don't you do a performance test of radar detectors against laser guns? Thanks and happy 4th of July

True, the detectors don't do much for laser, however laser is still a bit expensive for some departments and for laser they have to be stopped and pointing it specifically at you so it can't be used all of the times that radar can.
Anyone that uses one of these as a way to guarantee that they won't get a ticket isn't too bright. However they do come in handy for those 'woops, my speed creaped up a bit over the limit' times.

Travelling from San Fran down to LA this weekend, my old Escort 8500 saved me 4 times from hiding CHP cars.
May not be much good against laser, but the majority of cops still use radar.
p.s. The motorcycle cops use laser on PCH between Santa Monica and Port Huneme. I just drive at the speed limit through that area.

By the way, lesson I learned from the CHP while driving on through the Muholland Pass one morning: radar detector perfectly legal in California, but not legal mounted to the windshield.
