2007 Toyota Tundra: Gettin' Dirty

The Fourth weekend to my family is very important. Traditionally it's the opening weekend of our summer cabin located an hour and a half north of Lake Tahoe. It's one of the few chances we all get together. With the amount of work needed to be done, it was important for me to drive the Tundra.

Our cabin is on a 40-year lease from the Tahoe National Forrest. To renew our lease, we are mandated to clear the under-brush, cut down trees under four feet in height and branches going up five feet from the base in a radius of 30 feet from our cabin. This is a fairly dense forest so it was going to be a work holiday.

The Tundra was up for a little bit of a workout. With 4 Low on in the soft silt of the surrounding woods, the Tundra waited for each load of branches and brush destined to the winter burn pile designated by the Ranger. With eleven family members and five days of work, we cleared the area around my cabin. The Tundra was fully loaded 15 times to make the trek up the hill to the burn pile. We wouldn't have been able to do this much work if it weren't for the Tundra and it's cargo capacity.

Not only did we clear the brush around our cabin, but be we started putting a new coat of paint on its snow withered exterior. With a drive out to Reno for the closest Home Depot, we loaded it up with painting goods and the bed was stacked with a 20-foot extension ladder.

It wasn't all work and no play. It was a hot holiday weekend in the high Sierras and we wanted to get out. With it's seating for six and bed tie downs we packed six adults into the cab and filled the back with coolers, an inflatable raft and assorted excursion accessories. At night we went to the local fireworks display to round out a great weekend.

Wow, my wife and I cancelled our anniversary/holiday trip to Tahoe that week, because the entire region was getting weather alerts for hazardous air quality. Understandable, considering that everything north of Santa Barbara is on fire.

But you guys not only stayed there, you did hard labor?! How are your lungs?

(No regrets here, BTW -- we went to San Francisco instead, the one place that I knew would have clean air & cool temps.)

yea!! More real truck duty posts! I think the Tundra's been put to more real truck duties than the Silverado has... Not that the Silverado would have been any less capable, although with it's shorter bed, I'll bet it would have taken more trips, or at least a higher stack of stuff in the bed.

I went to San Fran too! Nothing like watching the fireworks shoot up into the fog and disappear into a clouded glow...
Great skateboarding though. My and my g/f rode our longboards from Palace of Fine Arts to the Giants Stadium. Beautiful weather for it on Saturday.

That's cool, Desmo. Last time, we could see the fireworks from our hotel room (we always stay at the same place), but this time we were like, "Where did they go?!"
