2008 Scion xB: Reboot for iPod

When I connect my iPod Touch to the xB, I get the above message. If I shut the car off then re-start or connect before the car is switched on, everything works fine. Maybe we need to keep computers and cars separate - just sayin'

Well I bet the average bear's iPod just kind of lives in the car, so this won't be a problem. But that is odd. Just out of curiosity, do you have a "weird" iPod version?

I have a new Touch with updated software - I can't imagine leaving a $300 electronic gadget in the car all the time. Double my puzzlement if you live in a city larger than Billings, MT.

iPods come in and out of the car constantly--multiple times per day. Leaving them in just isn't the average duty cycle.

This seems like a case where the device (Briand's iPod Touch) is newer that the car, so perhaps it doesn't know about it and can't cope.

Personal electronics development moves so much faster than car development. Will the car (pick a car, any car) be able to be updated to recognize new cell phones, iPods and such as they come out? If not, the built-in in car technology could they're pushing these days could become useless before you finish making payments. You could end up driving a Betamax.

Did this problem show up with other iPod models? Sounds like you're onto something -- the car's software already being outdated. That's too bad.

Now that car and computer are intertwined can we expect continuous updates to our car's various software components just like our computers at home and other devices?

I know this is an old thread and I can't see the pic that is referenced on my Mac for some reason, but I believe I have a similar issue and wanted to comment.

I have a 2006 Scion xB with a built in iPod adaptor. Up until last month, I was using my old 20gb iPod from 2003. It was able to charge through the connection as well as play music, like it's supposed to. I did get errors every now and then saying that it could not connect for whatever reason, but I would just unplug it, wait a minute, then plug it back in and it worked. Fine with me.

My current issue though resides with my newly acquired 64gb iPod Touch. When I connect the device to the adaptor, I immediately get an error on my pod stating that it's not able to charge. No big deal, as long as I can still play music. I'm not in the car long enough to worry about battery anyway.

The main issue though is that I can't scroll through songs using the controls on the radio like I could with my old pod. I mean I can, but it's totally delayed and I cannot choose a specific song without it overlooking or passing up the artist/song that I'd like to listen to. Then when I try to allow it to catch up, it goes back to the song that's currently playing and I have to start over. Very annoying.

What I'm wondering, given today's technology and the questions that were posed in previous posts, is whether or not "there's an app for that" out in order to work with my xB. So far Google has said no, but I will continue to look and hope for the best. I will also contact Apple and see what they say.

I guess this post is mainly for my amusement. To conclude, if I do find a solution I'll try and post it here. I do love everything about both my xB and my new iPod Touch. Now if they could both love each other (iduno), I would be a happy camper.
