Doooooods! You know it aint your car when you use that brush at the pressure wash. I'm sure Audi is gonna just love that exfoliation you just gave the paint.

That's hilarious, Scott!!! This is the funniest thing I've seen all week!
It's even funnier than this photo of a Gallardo owner trying to save $ on gas (thanks, wagonmonster):

Aaaahh! The 2nd picture makes me cringe. Hello swirlmarks and spiderwebs!
Washing sportscars by hand (and with the proper tools and no hard brushes!) is a joy, although it does take some time to do it right. But caressing the car's curvy body w/ a wash mitt really makes you appreciate them more.

Did you let her use the brush because Audi wouldn't hand over the six-speed? (:

So Costco is too low rent for a Lambo, Suby? Where else is an exotic owner to get gas?
In any case, I can top that with a Bentley Continental GT at a Jack-in-the-Box drive through window. I'm bummed that I didn't have a decent camera on me at the time, though.

Nooooooo!!! Not the brush!.... So far this car is definitely being treated as if you don't own it, unlike the pampering the Ford GT has received.

It's not that Costco is too low rent, it's that I imagine someone who owns a Gallardo would not 1) be that concerned about saving a few cents per gallon and 2) want to spend the time waiting in line to save a few cents per gallon.

I wonder if anyone has ever snapped a photo of me in the In N Out drive-thru line...in the Ford GT...

Nice, I usually just skip the brush. High pressure water usually gets it clean enough. If you don't own the car, then no point in breaking your back to clean it.
lol, depends on the gallardo owner. not all owners of expensive stuff have money to throw away.
And there is nothing wrong with fast food... I turned down a $50 steak from a fancy restaurant for a Carl's Jr Famous Star today and it was damn good!

I just have to giggle at these people that cry because they use a brush to wash this car. The only way to keep that showroom shine is to seal it in a garage. That ain't gonna happen.
It's a car. It's being used. It'll have bugs plastered on it. It'll have stone chips in the nose. It's going to have parking lot dings. Deal with it.
If you're really worried about the swirl marks...there are compounds on the market to smooth them out.

With a car of this caliber Id either pay to get it detailed professionally or do it myself at home.

I lile to call those the scratch 'n shine. I only use those as a last resort option when I have salt water, sand, and bugs plastered all over the car...like I did last week. Luckily, I didn't use the brush but only for the bugs.

wow that a lot of bugs
anyways, to add to this what would you take through a drive thru, i think seeing a big maybach limo going through there would be the best.

It's a car first. Art second. Any car can look fabulous if it's given a good detailing once a year.

True, but it takes a lot less effort to treat it better in the first place. I'm all about driving cars. Will never have a trailer queen. I love the story about the guy who set out to have the Enzo with the most miles on it. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't maintain it properly.

A tip for bugs...
Spray Spam on the fron of the car. It seriously reduces the amount of bugs on a car!
You use spam on pots to keep food from sticking to it. You use span on your car to keep bugs...
Try it out sometimes!

I've used these car washes for many years and have not seen any swirl marks, provided you power rinse or soap the car first and then use the brush in a gentle fashion (dont' force it down onto painted surfaces).
If you are really worried about the brush, simply blast it with the pressure nozzle to blow out any leftover dirt from the last wash, then put it to work.
One caution is when you are using the wand close to time runing out. The change in pressure can cause the wand to suddenly droop in your hands and hit/nick the paint.

I've also used the these car washes for many years without swirls. I think a lot depends on how soft your paint is though.
Some cars seem to swirl and scratch easier then others. The paint on my 17 year Subaru seems to be as tough as the rest of the car.

I don't use those car washes anymore just because my wife wastes too much time to make them economically worth it. We use so many quarters with her standing with a running hose looking at the car pondering what to do next. Sigh...

Not sure I want to smear Spam on the front of my car.
PAM, on the other hand, may work although I am not sure it is clearcoat safe.

Good catch, ryster. LOL
Firstwagon, the paint on your old Suby is almost definitely better than modern cars' paint jobs. The reason is that some countries, including USA, required car manufacturers to use water-based paint a few years ago. It is MUCH easier to damage, unfortunately.
