2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS: Lights Out

Pictured above is the way our long term Lancer's headlights should stay when they are not turned on. They should be off.

You see, our Mitsubishi has daytime running lights (DRLs) and I am patently against using headlights as DRLs. I should mention that I'm not against DRLs but in this age of ever increasing in-car distractions, the brief two seconds out of ten that we allow ourselves to actually look where we're going, it's helpful to have two bright reminders of the oncoming car you're not supposed to run into...
But using headlights to give us this forewarning is wrong.

My reasoning is with headlights, motorcycles, which run with their headlights on, lose their ability to stand out amongst the sea of cars. It affects their safety, and as bike enthusiast, I find that unacceptable.

Some manufacturers use the amber lights in turn signals (Chevrolet) while others incorporate interesting designs and LED lights (Audi) to achieve the same effect. I wish our Mitsubishi was a little more creative when it came to DRLs.

Something I think that causes a misconception about the DLRs as well is that the driver really does not need to turn lights on during the evening. However, if the lights are not turned on for evening driving, the tail lights are not turned on at night so other drivers can see the car ahead. To me this makes for a dangerous scenario and causes a major concern in regards to safety.

First off, The New Lancer looks amazing. After test drives I love how it handles and feels and will be considering getting one when school is over with. However, on the option of DLR using the headlights...I can see Kurt's POV because it can be confusing if when bikes on the road generally only got one headlight going on. But I think that the headlights and rear tail lights should be on the whole time you are driving a car, any car. I commute to work and on foggy or raining days people don't bother to turn their lights, to make themselves more visible. I can barely see the vehicles and it creates unsafe driving conditions. So, I'm glad that Mitsi uses the headlights because seeing two dim orange parking lights coming up behind me just pisses me off
