2008 Hyundai Veracruz SE AWD: Fuel Economy Update

It's time for a fuel economy update at 6,983 miles:

Best: 20.2 mpg

Worst: 13.3 mpg

Overall combined: 16.2 mpg

And I'm proud to say that through some miracle of physics and new parenthood I managed that "best" tank myself last weekend.

Yeah and 21mpg in the CX-9 is so mediocre.

LOL, Josh! If I had time, I'd photochop you drifting the Veracruz in dirt.

This is where the lack of engineering budgets and abilities show in Korean cars. They simply don't measure up to their Japanese, European, American competitors in this area.

Parenthood definitely changed my driving style. I was never reckless, I don't think, but I was probably less cautious and more eager to pass the slowpokes.

That fuel econ is not at all impressive though.

This is bad news for Hyundai. The CX9 is faster and gets better mileage.

Doesn't the huge V8 Tahoe get the same mileage?

So much for car based crossovers.

This is utter crap for a crossover.

Here's my n00bish stab at a photochop.

Wow! My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 gets similar numbers (13 city, 21 hwy, with a high of 23).

Suby, thats pretty good.

That's just sad gas mileage for a V-6. All of the V-8 cars that I've owned below could beat those tallies by a long shot (and with WAY more power):

2006 VW Phaeton (typically 17-21 mpg)
2006 Dodge Charger Daytona (18 mpg lifetime avg)
1998 Chevy Corvette (averaged 22 mpg lifetime; got 32 mpg on a hwy tank once)
2004 Mercury Marauder (about 18 mpg avg)
1996 BMW 740iL (avg about 20 mpg!)
1986 Cadillac Hearse (it weighed THREE tons and still averaged 18 mpg).

So what's with a wimpy V-6 crossover getting such poor mileage?

I have a 2007 Veracruz SE FWD that has leather, upgraded stero, sunroof and I get 24-25 driving from Austin to Houston with AC on. I avg around 18 in town
