I took our 2008 Hyundai Veracruz in yesterday for its 7,500-mile service. The maintenance schedule calls for an oil and filter change, and thankfully the dealership's service advisor wrote me up just for that without trying to add anything else on. An hour later, the job was done. The final bill was $31.62...

Hooray, finally an appropriate charge for an oil change! :p

Good to hear the dealership didn't try to mug you. I'm a little surprised a tire rotation isn't called for at 7,500 miles, though.
The grille still hasn't grown on me yet. Perhaps if Hyundai made it more Camry-like (you read that correctly, folks) or similar to the new STI grille, it'd "work" better for me.
Hope all is well up there, Brent! I went to the Streets of Willow Springs on Friday. Videos of my shenanigans can be seen on my CarSpace blog.

That's incredibly reasonable.

What a refreshing change.

Yeah, good price. My local tire shop - great bunch of guys - does lube/oil/filter and throws in a tire rotation for just under $30. I have to think any set of passenger tires really should be rotated every 7,500 miles.

That's a very good deal for a scheduled service. And I'm surprised that they didn't bring anything else up. The last time I took my Mazda in for a "basic" service they wanted to perform a "summer ready" service that was over $300 dollars, and they tried to tell me that there was buildup in my engine that needed cleaning (not necessary at 22,000 miles). Another one hundred bucks.
That, and there's a unicorn shi**ing in my transmission.
On a side note, I like the foglights on the Veracruz and how they are well integrated. I agree with Suby...Hyundai needs to put something like the grille from the new Toyota Venza on the Veracruz to make it look better.

Seriously, no tire rotation? I'm fairly certain that Hyundai's owners manual requires a tire rotation every 7500 miles.

"and they tried to tell me that there was buildup in my engine that needed cleaning "
I would have asked them how they knew there was a build up in the engine? Did they disassemble it? Is it a known design flaw or are you just trying to rip off customers?

so when did this turn into a short story fiction blog?
just kidding. lame joke, I know. my apologies.
how refreshing though! sounds like good dealer service to me.

That is a good charge for the service. Is that at Lithia Hyundai in Fresno?

firstwagon,
i did ask them why and they said it was normal and that they found it during the routine courtesy inspection of the car. I said if it is normal, then why should i pay to have it fixed? and the guy just shrugged and said ok.

I'm amazed that this is considered unusual. I get my oil changed at a dealer for $18 after taxes. They never try and upsell me.
It's great that this dealer didn't try to screw you (did they know you were Edmunds?), but that should be par for the course.

Glad it went well and the price was reasonable. I like how you guys use dealerships for all services, because it gives us an idea of what to expect. However, I don't think I personally would have wanted to wait an hour for just an oil change. And I'd probably also rotate the tires at this time.

Back when I had the Honda Accord, oil change was $30 at the dealership as well.

I like the way the Verazruz grille is right now actually, with the photochop it looks like a Camry.
