2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: The VW Thing of Our Time

This past Saturday I spent the afternoon and most of my knuckle skin reinstalling the doors and top of our 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. Good fun. Ranks right up there with root canal and the musical stylings of Chikezie.

During the process I realized three things:

1) Reinstalling the doors and top of our 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited royally sucks...

2) This Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is the VW Thing of our time.

3) I'm a wimp with soft, easily torn flesh.

The Thing has mirrors mounted on the body for doorless driving. The Wrangler does not.

VW Thing +1
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited -1

The Thing is probably faster, too.

Hmm, actually on the yellow Thing the mirrors are also on the body.

I wonder how much the door hinge design changed from the previous generation Wrangler to this one - I never found it particularly difficult to install/uninstall the doors on the previous gen, though I haven't yet tried on this version.

so the doors ain't made for removing all the time? Bummer. That just takes all the fun out of having a Jeep

golfgti4789, the very end of the Long-Term Road Test introduction will probably explain it all.

Hmmm... the Jeep, about 10 seconds.... the Thing, about 18 seconds. Yep that's a close one.

Wow, if putting the doors on was that hard, you must need some kind of physical theropy. I have no trouble with the doors at all. Try doing it a better way instead of holding the door on the same side as the hinges genious. People like you do nothing but ruin sales because you have no idea what you are doing. You people clearly should not have a Wrangler in your test garage. Post after post of bitching because its not a car basicaly.
