2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: so many uses!

Sure it gets you from place to place, but the Wrangler has some other uses, too.
On our way in, we must have stopped four or five times to take pictures. Here we stopped because Dave saw a really cool shot he wanted of the moon.

After we visited the salt flats at Badwater Basin, we made our way back toward Furnace Creek (they have check-in at 4p? yikes). On the way, we stopped off to hike up to the Natural Bridge. It's pretty cool and of course: Dave had to climb it. He got about halfway up before he realized he could make the whole way up, but probably not back down. Heh.

After we checked in at Furnace Creek, we headed back out to try to catch the sunset. No such luck, though, we missed it by about 10 minutes. Boo!

However, Dave found Hole in the Wall Road on the map and we went for it. I got in some 4x4 time and we did get some nifty end-of-the-sunset photos of the mountains on the east side of the park. Being my first time 4x4-ing, I was a little nervous and turtle slow. With some encouragement from Dave and the confident responses from the Jeep, though, it wasn't long before I sped up a bit and had WAY more fun.

I think the Jeep was happier to be on that road than me!

The next morning we got up super. duper. early to catch the sunrise from Dante's View (note: if you attempt this, bundle up like you're going to Siberia). We were covered in layers of shirts and jackets and sweaters and hats and gloves, but it just wasn't enough. With the wind howling over the peak, we could only manage staying outside for about 30 minutes.

Finally, we broke and jumped back in the Wrangler to warm up. We did go back out, but only for a few minutes and we scooted down to the leeward side of the peak. Heh.
Wrangler: hand-warmer

Later on on Friday, we took Leadfield Road through to Titus Canyon and mid-way through the drive we ran into... snow. Yay! Don't worry, we took it easy, but still. Snow! Fun! (Hey, it's a novelty for me.) The Wrangler was a champ, though; low gear, still in the 4x4 high and it was easy as pie getting down the steep grades.
