2008 Mitsubishi Lancer: Getting to the Trunk

The humongous wing on the rear end of the Lancer may be a bit misleading when it comes to signifying the car's performance capabilities, but it does serve one practical purpose: It's a big help when it comes to getting the trunk open. Press the trunk release button and the trunk pops open just a smidgen. There's no formal handle to speak of back there, and there's barely enough room at the base of the lid for you to slide your fingers underneath and pry the trunk open. Enter the gargantuan wing.  A gentle nudge to that massive protuberance and you're on your way...
With 11.6 cubic feet of space, the Lancer's trunk isn't that huge for its class. But it does offer rear seat pass-through, which was a huge help this weekend when hauling a curtain rod for my kitchen.
