Yesterday, while driving down a street with safety bumps designed to slow down drivers in a school zone, I not only noticed how poorly the Edgeâs undercarriage handled the bumps at the designated speed, but was surprised to see the hood of the vehicle pop up ever so slightly. I thought this was my imagination as itâs hard to tell from the vantage point of the driverâs seat. However my concerns were confirmed when I pulled into a parking structure where the attendant checked to make sure I knew the hood was ajar. Of course a firm nudge closed to hood easily, but thereâs little excuse for such poor workmanship.

Why poor workmanship? Maybe somebody at Edmonds didn't fully close it.

... yes that story sounds like someone just forgot to close the hood. Blame your gear head coworkers checking out the totally awesome engine bay man.

And Ford is comparing this to the Lexus RX? What a joke.

I would also hazzard a guess to say that someone didn't close the hood properly. Consumer Reports rates the quaility of the Edge very highly. Judging by the number of them I see on the road they have been a great success!

I've caught my foot on the hood release a couple of times while getting out of my car. My feet must be too big.

"I've caught my foot on the hood release a couple of times while getting out of my car."
Now we have an explanation that makes sense.

Does the Edge have parking brake release close to the hood release like on the Cadillac SRX? That could be it.

That beige color on your Edge is hideous.

Hi Alison,
First off, this is the first post I noticed as yours..soo...if your new....welcome to Edmunds!
I think it's a great idea for a post, to mention the hood popping open when going over some low speed bumps. The fact that you noticed it move signifying that it probably did "open" to it's status in the picture, and had not been that way when you began driving.
That being said, I don't think a single instance of this on the car justifies a knock on the workmanship. As others have pointed out: how do we know that someone didn't close the hood firmly the last time and it was caught at an in-between state waiting for your slow-speed nudge?
I'd say if it happens again during your (edmunds) ownership, then there is something going on.
To share one of my own experiences: My wife's saturn Ion (03) Hood wouldn't close after opening it. It took me a few minutes to figure out that the hood-release pull did not retract on it's own, thereby preventing the "catch" from holding the hood down. Each time I open the hood, I have to manually push the hood-release into it's original position before shutting the hood.
What was the first thing that came to mind when this first occured? I thought I had messed up the hood catch somehow. But after investigating, it's just poor quality. Might be the case here, but you have to assume other things first.
Especially since you represent one of the most well respected auto institutions around and your blog entries may influence hundreds/thousands of potential buyers.

Ford comparing the edge to the Lexus is a lot better than Hyundia comparing there cars to BMW's, Lexus's and LandRovers. Saying they have more cup holders and other B.S. The edge has been an extremely reliable vehicle so far I have heard very few complaints about its quality and overall the vehicle. Fords cars are getting better with each launch they have and I hope that the media is finally noticing that, and finally they are seeing the Honda and Toyota aren't as good as they have always made them out to be reliabilty wise.

So I guess if some idiot did not close the hood properly on a Toyota it would also mean that Toyota was of poor quality?
This was a worthless entry...
