2007 Mini Cooper S: Bun Burners

Seat heaters have got to be at the top of my list of favorite car features and I especially appreciate them in the cloth seats of our 2007 Mini Cooper S. They are so effective. There are three settings: Simmer, Roast and Scorch. But my buns could only really bear Simmer...
Although starting at Scorch warms up the seat right away on a cold day, the soothing warmth quickly turns into something that resembles a broiling hot tub on a sizzling Arizona summer day. I wonder why they make it so hot. Perhaps so you can feel the heat through your ski pants and jeans and thermals?

Perhaps they're tuned to UK bun parameters? Do British buns need more warming than ours? It is pretty cold over there.

I was thinking the same thing.

I didn't think you could get seat warmers with cloth seats.

I like the fact that these switches are momentary. That is, when you key-off the car, they default to off and don't come back on again until one re-engages the switch.

I recently got a new car with heated seats and I have to say I agree with you. Heated seats are amazing. I actually think health insurance companies should pay for people with bad backs to have them because it releases all of the muscles just like a heating pad would.

I bet the settings don't make much sense to you being in southern California. I'm not in a cold climate here in Washington but there have been plenty of days where I wished the seats would get just a bit hotter than the "high" setting offers (my M Coupe only has high and low). I can imagine if you were in Minnesota in January you would LOVE that Scorch setting. Cloth seats (vs leather) may have an impact as well?

actualsize/Dan: I absolutely agree. I recall getting into the R-Class after Donna had left them on Level 5. Had I left them on any longer, my jeans probably would've looked like I sat on a toaster.

Speaking of which, I have noticed that our female staff members seem to appreciate seat heaters more than our male staffers. I could be wrong about this of course, but has anybody else noticed a more sex-based preference for this feature? Obviously everyone likes them when its cold outside, but what about in warmer climes? I'd personally take seat coolers over heaters any day here in California.

My friend won a new Fusion through a contest, and I drove her to the dealership to pick it up (my experience working in a dealership meant I was requested to make sure they didn't get her to actually buy anything). The day was over 90 degrees, but she was so impressed with the heated seats she cranked the auto AC onto a very low temperature setting, then turned on the heated seats for the drive home, just to see what they were like. Sigh.

I'm living in England right now, cold and damp it is indeed. We have a tiny heater in the bathroom that blows, kinda like a wall-mounted blow drier, so I just stand under there for about 10 minutes after a shower. I imagine the seat heater settings are tuned for England's climate.

Which makes me also want to point out, you're Southern California based. What difference do seat heaters make? The coldest weather we ever see in LA is 40 degrees. Now that makes me turn on the heater when I get in the car on those mornings, but having cloth seats means my back and butt never feel cold.

I'd love to have seat heaters up here. Especially on those -30 degree days (wind chills gets down to -60).

Seat heaters are for pantywaists. I have leather and live where its in the teens during the day in winter and my ass feels just fine without.

gotta throw in here that I've been knocking the MEGA SPEEDO in the Minis, but now that I see those window and light switches--holy cow that's cool!! (except for the empty spot. I HATE "filler" spots which constantly remind everyone that you could have paid more for something exceedingly cool, but didn't. probably an ejector seat or oil slick/smoke screen 007 function or something . . . )

These things are insanely hot. My wife loves them; I only turn my side on if I'm coming home from Scuba and I'm still chilly.

NWF, the window switches are horrible. They're situated on either end of the console, they're not auto-up and they're easily blocked by the gear shift. You have to hold each one to motor up the window and that's a glacially slow process.

Anyone try to make melted cheese sandwiches on them?
