2007 Chevrolet Silverado: No Parking

I have to buy a bathtub this weekend so I opted for the Silverado. On my way home, I had to make a stop in, uh, cozy Santa Monica - parking this thing is no treat. Thankfully ours has rear parking sensors, plus I lucked out and found an end spot.

On the way home I was impressed by the truck's highway manners...

I've gotta say, I like this truck better than the Tundra - although the Tundra is better looking. I'm curious to hear who thinks the Tundra is better and why.

You are one of the few who consider the Tundra better looking and I agree with you. I think the both trucks are equally capable but if I have to choose I'll pick the Tundra because 1. I think it's better looking, 2. I like its interior better, and 3. the 5.7L V8 is just simply amazing.

The 5.7 is absolutely amazing!!!

louiswei, I am total opposite of you.

I Agree the 5.7 Toytoa V8 is bad to the bone, but Engine, is not the only thing that goes in the equation these days. My presonally feel that the Gm Trucks are better/ 1. Better suspension, 2. Better Ride, 3. Way better interior, especially when you get the luxo interior. finally for comfort.

That is just my opinon

The Tundra is better looking, and has a tighter turning diameter than the Silverado.

But the Toyota's anti-sport suspension and anti-sport steering ratio, with anti-sport 3.71 turns lock-to-lock really irks me.

How much more anti-sporty can you get?

Tundra: good exterior styling (don't know whether I prefer it to the Silverado though, they're pretty close in my opinion) but awful interior styling.

I wouldn't want to drive either in Santa Monica though.

I surprised anyone likes the Tundras styling better, I much prefer the Silverado.

It's just personal taste though.

While I agree that the Toyota's 5.7L V8 is a great engine, I could never own the truck. In my opinion, the exterior styling is somewhat ackward, and the interior is absolutely horrible. I much prefer the Silverado's more conventional styling.

I think the Silverado looks way better inside and out. If it weren't for the superior Toyota driveline, it would be no contest. I think the Titan looks best, though.

Of all full size trucks out there, I like the GMC Sierra best inside and out. It used to be the F-150 but its kind of old now. The Tundra is pretty tough from the outside but the interior is pretty stupid, four different colors and a very uncohesive design. I'm waiting to see how the new 6 speed will affect performance for the Silverado and Sierra.

I have to say I like the Tundra better. I've never been in one but from what I've heard it's big without feeling big. Plus, I thinkthe 5.7L V8 sounds great! I like the Silverado too but the styling inside and out aren't as good as the Tundra in my opinion.

Zach - i think the Tundra feels very big. Plus, as several people here have said, the Silverado's ride is much better.

BTW, that pic sure makes it look like you are parked in a red zone.

The Silverado's excessive chin fascia probably cuts down on air resistance a little, but it also gives it the approach angle of a minivan.

Probably the most impressive aspect of the 5.7 Tundra is the mileage. You'd figure a fast, 350+ hp full size truck would have trouble cracking 15mpg, and looking at the Titan, GM 6.0, and Hemi Ram you'd be right - but by most reports the Tundra does about as well as the class leading GM 5.3.

Wonder how much the overdue 6 speed will help GM in this regard.

Lets hope that 6 spd helps a lot

I love the Tundas drivetrain and styling! The Silverados drivetrain is perfectly adequate but the styling? It doesnt flow as well as the Tundra. The Silverado looks like 3 big sections of metal fused together whereas the Tundras design flows and looks better integrated. The Silverado isnt an ugly truck but......the design needs better integration.

The front of the Tundra is what I like best as the front overhang is short and it seems as if the body was wrapped over the chassis. But the best overall looking truck is the Dodge Ram hands down.

If I were to buy a full size half ton I would have to say the Titan would win my dollars. I really like the GMC Sierra (looks better than the silverado) but the lack of a 5 or 6 speed auto is a deal killer for me and I wish they would install a console shifter for the luxo interior! I can't stand column shifters and so that's a deal breaker too! Plus you can't beat the Titan in the "bang for the buck" category and it's a tough truck even if it's one of the oldest designs! And it's only second to the tundra 5.7 in performance.

Now if it's a diesel 3/4 ton it would be a GMC Duramax hands down.... since it at least as the 6spd auto I could deal with the column shifter.

Neither truck is that good looking on the outside and the Tundra only looks right without the huge mirrors and with the 18" wheels. The front end is ugly no matter how you cut it. Tundra's engine is way better but you spend your time inside and the nod goes to the GM trucks and the silverados powertrains are more than adequate. The Tundra's interior is ugly and full of rock hard plastics. Thats a bad combination. I think the Sierra looks better than both.

I was going to buy a Tundra maybe, until I found out about all the problems. Tundra brings shame on Toyota link. The 5.7 V8 won't be safe to buy until 2009, camshafts, torque converters, transmissions, tailgates, plus they cheaped out on the interiors and the sheet metal is crap. Toyota never used to have problems bringing in a new model until this Truck. You can bet someone in Japan is going hari-kari about this truck. Consumer Reports no longer recommends Tundra V8. Here's the link:

manitouchuck, "hara-kiri".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seppuku

And the Toyota Tundra V8 is still recommended by 2008 Consumer Reports.
The defective version is the 4WD system.
The 5.7-liter is not causing much of a problem according to Consumer Reports. So it's possible the camshaft snap is a limited problem, as Toyota claims.

But 3.71 turns lock-to-lock! Dearly @#$@#$^!!!! Who the hell made the steering 3.71 turns lock-to-lock?!?!? That's insane! Was great-grandma in charge?

The Tundra better looking? Who do you buy your crack from? It's like someone wrapped a hippo in Spandex.

toyota4life says:

04:52 PM, 11/12/07

I think the TITAN looks the best ,then the Tundra, still cannot get past the CHEVY face, not that it is ugly ,there is just nothing to it,............IH8HYUNDAI! Lay off the crack pipe, What kind of crack are you on to know what a hippo wrapped in spandex looks like?

billt9 says:

09:14 PM, 11/12/07

I'm not sure if crack induces hallucinations of a hippo in spandex. It's probably a different neighborhood medication.

The Tundra is more like a metallic bear statue. A bear that turns slowly, but makes tight turns nonetheless.

actualsize says:

The Tundra suffers from one of it's main selling points: the 10,000 lb tow rating. Or, more specifically, the ride comfort penalty that comes with it. Beefy rear springs are needed to manage the mass, but it makes the ride too rigid.

What the Tundra needs is a 5.7-liter V8 model with an 7,500 to 8,000 lb tow rating. That way, softer springs and a more econmical final drive could be fitted, and folks would still be able to buy the big engine they all seem to want. Let this be a half-ton already.

firstwagon says:

If it were up to me, I'd like to see the 5.7 in the Tacoma. More practically sized, better looking truck and big engines in smaller vehicles always makes me smile.
