2007 Jeep Compass: From Camping to Crash

Our long-term Jeep Compass earned its keep during the past week, when It hauled Brownies and camping equipment to the annual Girl Scout Camporee and carpooled kids to and from elementary school.

Despite the fact that the Girl Scout campground had warned (too late) against leaving food in vehicles, nary a feral cat or a ravaging squirrel smashed through the Compass' passenger window to gorge on the peanut butter chocolate chip granola bars I had left exposed in the Jeep's open dash storage bin.

Instead, the Compass suffered a worse fate at the elementary school parking lot where an unknown driver side-swiped the Jeep's rear passenger side and fled the scene.

Sheesh. What kind of lesson in responsiblity is that for your kids?..

The Compass was delivered to the body shop this morning. We'll let you know the repair cost when we get the final bill.

That crash really sucks.

What's a "ferrell cat"? Do you mean feral?

A Ferrel cat is a cat that looks like Will Ferrel. That's a nasty hit. Not only is the driver that hit your car a terrible driver for hitting your car, they're also a sh**y person for leaving the scene. Carma will get them.

Yes, I do mean feral. I should know better than to trust the first spelling I see in google, or the second, or the third. Next time, it's Webster's first.

I can't even count the number of times I've returned from Walmart to find a new scratch on my truck or car. One was that bad. Luckily it was my truck.

Hopefully the first photo was taken before the crash! :o)

I guess this is the second time that panel is going to have work done on it. :(

Perhaps a self-imposed ban from driving or riding in any Jeep-branded automobiles is in order, Kelly? :(

Somewhat off-topic but maybe a little similar: I've banned myself from USC football road and bowl games because they've lost all the ones I've attended except the 2000, 2002, and 2004 games against the Bruins (2001 Las Vegas Bowl on Christmas Day 2001, 2006 Rose Bowl, and the December 2, 2006 game against UCLA - and for those wondering, I wasn't at last Saturday's game against Stanford).

Wow, it seems the LT vehicles are involved in collisions quite often. Must be a lot of idotic drivers in California.

This is the second scrape the Compass has been involved in, if I remember correctly.

It must be a bull. No man would do such a thing.
A bull I say!

Is the feral cat in question named Garbage? Does it live in a barn and did it eat an entire family of racoons?

I just read the long term wrap up on the Camry, and saw the damage. I think Edmunds long term cars are just unlucky or something, because there is no other way so many of their cars could get damaged.

"Must be a lot of idotic drivers in California." is probably the biggest understatement I will live to see. It's simply amazing how arrogant and stupid people are out here when behind the wheel.

Sorry to hear that! On another note, didn't you guys get the Compass in September last year? Wouldn't that mean that the long-term test should be over?
