Not only is the Mitsu's cockpit design less claustrophobic, it's inherently sportier. The reality is, though, that the doortops still come up to my shoulders, so the Lancer's beltline is not really all that low. I think the illusion of  "lowness" comes from the subtle tapering of the dash as it flows toward the windshield, which you can sort of see in the top photo. Bottom line, I much prefer to sit in the Lancer than the Caliber.
