2007 Jeep Compass: Quiet Please

The Compass is far from perfect. One attribute alone makes the vehicle seem worse. Too much road noise. Fix that and I could appreciate the better than expected stereo and comfortable seats all the more...

Keep in mind this is a $20K vehicle for Versa prices. It's the ultimate in costcutting practices.

Not for the edmunds folks, who get all the options, don't know or care to bargain and probably spent close to 30k of their hard- earned advertisement dollars.

Actually they do negotiate on the purchase price of LT cars, but given they often get early models, MSRP might be the only way. Read the "price paid" section of the LT intro reviews and you'll find how they negotiated and their purchase experience.

It's also better that they DO get a lot of options on the cars. More features to review = more info for the consumer. You can always choose to not get whatever on your own car and get the blanked-out panel instead.

"For $25,395, our shiny Inferno Red Compass Limited 4x4 came equipped with the optional continuously variable transmission (CVT), as well as leather-trimmed heated seats and the Customer Preferred Package, which includes a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system, Sirius Satellite Radio, a sunroof and those 18-inch chrome wheels.

Standard safety features on the Compass include full-length side curtain airbags, traction and stability control, and a tire-pressure monitor. Front-seat-mounted side airbags are optional, but our vehicle doesn't have them. Despite our paying full price, the Jeep is reasonable; similarly loaded competitors quickly edge toward $30K."

They paid Full Retail Price.

Yup, and the preceding paragraph in the intro states why:

"Because the Compass is a new model in short supply, the dealership sales manager held firm at MSRP, but he was sincere and polite. Once we agreed, our salesman Randy handled the details with above-the-call-of-duty manners. All this before they knew we were from Edmunds.com."

I'm sure glad I paid only $100 above so-called dealer invoice, before they knew I was not from Edmunds.com. (same month and year as theirs, btw).

How did steelblue purchase the same car at the same time in same market as Edmunds for less money... Oh, wait. It doesn't say anything about location - is that deceptive or ignorant?

I'd be happy to pay about $10,000 for this car options and all. Frankly, a used CRV would be better.

Why would paying $100 above invoice be a good thing on a brand-new model? What does that say about the car's market potential and subsequent resale value?

Hmm...sounds like the two of you don't know how to negotiate either.
