2007 Honda Fit: Slip 'n Slide

Ok, I've heard of cost cutting in cars. I once heard about a manufacturer who had the idea of trimming the wiring under a power seat to shave a few pennies, only to have it cost them hundreds or thousands of dollars in repairs because the wires would pull out when the seat was put all the way back.

I think not having clips to hold the floor mat is another one of those bad ideas. I'll pay the extra buck or two to have it stay in place...

The chump change paid upfront is more than worth the frustration of a mat that slides around and gets in the way of your pedals and/or feet.

Wasn't this covered already?

Ah yes, Jun 18, John Dipietro. Look in the comments. The hooks are supposed to be there but either Edmunds or dealership forgot to put them in.

come on, edmunds, pay attention!

i have the rubber all-season mats in my car, and they're not terribly attractive, but they work very well - trap all kinds of sand/mud/water. They definitely slipped a little bit before I had the hooks installed, but I can't imagine they were as bad as the carpeted mats.

My S does have the hooks for the floormats, but they don't help. The mat gets all twisty.

Save the headaches and the money, skip the floor mats altogether. They serve no real purpose then other then an overpriced profit item for dealers to add on.

on all the cars i've driven, the OEM floor mats are usually heavy and anti-slip backing are aggressive enough to keep it from sliding, even without the hooks.

I agree with dalaw. On my 04 Camry, our 92 Previa and all the other cars we've had, the floor mats had huge rubber spikes on the back that dig into the carpet and don't move. Our newer cars have the hooks but I don't see them as having any real purpose.

Come on...don't blame Honda for cutting corners. Go back to the dealer and have the mats installed properly, or do it yourself with the parts and templates that come with the mats. Maintain the car properly - don't cut corners yourself - and then gripe if you still have a *real* issue with the product. BTW, I hear there is terrible wind noise on the highway too - if you drive with the hatch open. Cheap Honda! Please....

Yes, this was covered before. You guys really should keep track of your own blogs!

I also have the OEM rubber mats in and they work great, with ZERO slipping. I used the hooks that came in the same box with the mats. I actually put the hooks in - it took 5 minutes.

This is a dealership problem - blame them, not Honda.

I do disagree with FirstWagon though - the Fits carpet is really pretty cheap (one of my few complaints about the Fit), and it really does benefit from having the floor mats there. And if you spend the extra 5 minutes to put them in properly, they work great.

Have your dealer install the required clips for the mats. I ordered my mats (the dealer wanted 3X what I could buy them for from College Hill Honda) and installed them in about 10 minutes. The carpet has slits that indicate where the clips holes are located. One cut at the bottom of the slits, lift up the flap, install the clip (4X) and you're done. It is a slick design and mats stay put.

More importantly than the Editors keeping track of the blog, has anyone passed this on to their shop guys? This is less than a 30 minute fix, if it's the first time you're doing it.

otto.
(very happy stepping down from his '05 Subaru Legacy GT Limited sedan to the Black '07 Fit Sport with the 16" HFP rims... ok... I do miss the ~250HP and torque, but the Fit is a great car.)
