2007 Chevrolet Silverado: Uncommonly Warm & Homey

2007 Chevrolet Silverado LT interior - E. Riches

I've been in a full-size pickup kind of mood for the last week. After a weekend with a Tundra, I decided to reacquaint myself with our 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. One thing I noticed is that the Silverado has a warm, homey feel as soon as you get inside...

The driving position in this truck is particularly well conceived. Rather than burying you in a huge cab where the various controls and the outside world feel miles away, Chevrolet ensured that pretty much everything was within easy view and reach. It takes no effort at all to use the center stack controls, and visibility is excellent by full-size truck standards -- the beltline is low and the view over the hood isn't imposing at all. I wasn't sure about the slender steering wheel rim at first, but it adds to the impression of maneuverability (even if the slowish steering ratio does not).

One of the few things I take issue with in this cabin is the placement of the door release handles. They're located under the protruding door armrests, and I find it to be an awkward motion to reach around this lump of vinyl every time I want to open the door. I'd prefer to have the releases higher up and farther forward on the door. Obviously, those of different physiology may not share my sentiment.

In other news, the Silverado has 2 percent oil life remaining, so it will be going into the dealer soon. Also, the onboard trip computer is indicating that we've let a couple of the tires slip 5 psi below spec, so I'll be addressing that during my lunch hour.
