2007 Audi Q7: Parking Is Such Sweet Sorrow

I'd like to take all the credit for this sweet parallel parking job, but I can't. Although Audi's engineers and product planners weren't with my family in Manhattan Beach, California on this cloudy day, it is they that parked the large SUV. Between the Audi's large, well placed outside mirror, rear bumper distance sensors (the small circles in the silver portion of the bumper) and back up camera, parking this green monster is as stressfull as a walk on the beach.

Where is the back up camera physically located on the Q7?

The back-up camera is located above the license plate under the Audi badge.

The cool part is that those guide lines and the blue zone between them bend as you turn the wheel in order to show you what's in your curved path. Trailer hook-up is a snap too.

I recall seeing similar lines in the Altima equipped with the Back-up camera.

And every Infiniti equipped with a backup cam, too.

Wait, why does the Q7 have Michigan plates if the car was bought in California and is based in California? All the other cars I've seen have California plates.

The car was provided to Edmunds by Audi of America. At the bottom of the Long-Term Road Test Introduction, it is written, "Thou shalt not..." Just kidding! It says, "The manufacturer provided Edmunds this vehicle for the purposes of evaluation."

The reason I asked about the rearview camera location was that it wasn't immediately obvious on the blog picture. Other cars I've seen have an unsightly box that mars an otherwise clean appearance. Leave it to Audi to make it all slick-like.

It's ok ayao- it's in a place that most people wouldn't see it.
It wasn't a dumb question.

A lot of cars have the guide lines laid over their camera images. I don't recall any others that bend these lines in response to steering inputs.

I remember when I was a teen I had a summer job driving a Dodge van with no windows. Took a bit of practice to learn to parallel park with just the mirrors but I got the hang of it. I can still do it 1st time everytime no matter what I'm driving.

Practice beats expensive gadgets everytime.

Very convenient for car lovers. I should have this one. Is this the first car with this new technology? Now i dont need my back audi grille for my car protection, and now free from bumps on parking. Great work Audi.
