Ford Edge has Mike Tyson syndrome

Every time I think about incongruity, I think about Mike Tyson. With all those muscles and tattoos, Mike was a city bus with graffiti. Then he opened his mouth and you got that squeaky lisp. Definitely not what you'd expect...
The Ford Edge has a similar kind of incongruity. It's a big, strapping SUV, and as I slid inside this weekend seeking respite from the heat, I gratefully noted that it has big, strapping vents.

I flicked on the air, expecting my sweaty collarbone to be greeted with a big, strapping rush of air. No dice. Instead I got a weak breeze more suited to a Kia Rio. I flipped the dial, going from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4. It wasn't until the air was fully cranked that I got a gust of any significance. And this weekend wasn't even that hot.

Haven't had this issue with any of the other vehicles I've driven recently. Even the small-statured Versa holds its own when it comes to kicking out some gale-force cooling power.

Those vents are also nearly impossible to direct as they have little move-ability.

Yes. A disappointment, through and through.

Do you think the problem is that the vents are too large? The larger the opening, the less forceful the air will be coming out.

Good point, dilettante. There's probably some diffusion going on because of how huge the vents are. Still, it just doesn't feel like there's a lot of juice there to begin with.

One thing I will periodically do, if I am the only one in the car, is close off the passenger vents completely. The air has to go somewhere... so it makes the breeze coming from the open vents seem more significant. This parallels dilettante's comment about vent size.
