Cadillac SRX Buttons and Switches

This weekend I got to spend some time in our long-term Cadillac SRX. It seems inconceivable, but this is the first Cadillac I've ever driven. I like it a lot. It drives very smoothly, handles well, good sight lines, it's got nice power, and everything is exactly where you want it...

Admittedly, the stalk that controls the light switches is unncecessarily complex, but since Engineering Editor Jay Kavanagh ranted about it  in detail last week, I won't bore you.

I love the sunroof, which is huge and opens all the way to the back of the backseats (in theory).

However, it seems to be malfunctioning. I pushed the button to close it. It moved along about 3/4 of the way, then stopped and reversed itself. So I pushed the button again. Same deal. I had to push and then hold it to get it closed. When I opened it today, it didn't open all the way. Just stopped, and wouldn't open further (as you can see). Vehicle Testing Coordinator Mike Schmidt seems to think it can be reset/reprogrammed easily. An easy fix.

Ironically, this is the opposite of the very enthusiastic window buttons. I tried to open the driver-side window halfway, and it refused. It shot all the way open, and then when I pushed "up" to stop it, it started to go up. I kept having to push it up/down, up/down just to halt its progress. A mild annoyance, and maybe the reprogramming of the roof will make the windows a little more user-friendly. All in all, though, I look forward to more time in the SRX.

How's the mileage been?

edit: ps, this is one reason (besides cost and headroom) I avoid sunroofs - wish they were optional instead of standard on Lexus/BMW/MB.

yeah I ask that same question how is the mileage so far? dealing with electronic gremlins can be frustrating but gas mileage is usually an important and increasingly crucial factor in buying this type of vehicle

I asked our vehicle coordinators to check in on the mileage since you both asked. But they're not in today but I'll let you know as soon as we have some info.

I got some answers. Fuel mileage on the SRX is averaging a Prius-like (not) 16.7 mpg. Best being 22, worst being NINE over about 17,000 miles.

I have a CTS. I assume the window switches operate identically. The switch has two settings, you can get a better feel for them by playing with the up/down for the rear seats on the driver side. The rear is where you can feel/learn the difference. The auto down is on all windows. Touch the switch in the middle toward the direction you want and it moves with your touch. Depress it toward the end and it is auto down, plus there's positive action like there's a further switch level. The back windows don't have auto up. Press them. You can't get them to catch, like with the auto down. Now press the front up, you can feel the rocker mechanism and the catch to the switch. It goes auto up. Works in front but not back b/c you don't want to catch those kiddies heads in the caddy's windows. It's actually ingenious, you just have to figure out how to use it and it's easy and helpful. I love auto up.

Speaking of the CTS, I would hope that Edmunds could have it in their hearts/pocketbook to do a long term review of the CTS when it's released for the new model year, since they missed it's first iteration.
