Chevrolet Tahoe: Dyno Testing

As a follow up to our E85 vs Gasoline article, we recently took the Tahoe to our friendly neighborhood dyno - MD Automotive in Westminster, CA. We're trying to see if the Tahoe's V8 would be weaker or stronger depending on the fuel type.  The results will be up soon - look for an article or blog post within the next few weeks.

Here, our Engineering Editor Jay Kavanagh gets all scientific setting up the dyno run. Without giving away the ending, let's just say the difference in output isn't as dramatic as we were expecting...

Consumption? That's another story altogether.

The dyno results should be interesting as the power of ethanol is often highly touted by its supporters (at least more often than I hear mentions of fuel consumption if I remember correctly).

In loosely-related news, Jeff Simmons had a good finish (6th) in the #17 Rahal/Letterman Racing Ethanol-sponsored indy car on Saturday night in Texas partly due to a late accident that claimed key front runners (Dan Wheldon, Scott Dixon, and Helio Castroneves).

Were the results ever published anywhere (I've been away for a while)?
