Okay, I was hoping to write about something a little more meaningful than my elbow in this blog, but hey, it was the center point of what I noticed. This is my first time up close with the new Wrangler, and I mainly just drove it around the mean streets of West LA and Santa Monica...not exactly hardcore off-road terrain. I have to say that I was surprised at, well, just how Hummer-y the design is. As a former Cherokee owner, I'm a big fan of Jeep's traditional propensity for simplicity, so all the added design details got a little busy for my taste. I wouldn't really mind it though, if this style hadn't gotten in the way of functionality.
Specifically, all the cool curves and stylling cues on the interior door panel didn't allow for any really comfortable place to put my arm when cruising down the road. To be fair, at 6' 4", no car is really going to suit me perfectly, but I noticed it here much more than with most vehicles. It's not too surprising that the drive quality on the road was nothing to write home about, though it is better than previous Wranglers. I didn't get a chance to take it off-road, so I would probably be more enthusiastic about it if I had. So basically, my first impression of the Wrangler was not super positive, but I was just driving it around town, so I reserve my judgment a bit. Just make sure you buy the elbow pad option when you purchase your next Wrangler.

Hey that's still much better than the previous generation Wranglers! Ever try resting your arm on a vinyl door strap?
Glass half full my friend, glass half full!
