To give it brief respite from Southern California gridlock, I've taken our long-term 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 250 miles northwest of LA to my current place of residence: Fresno, Calif. Fresno lies in the center of California's agricultural heartland. And here, Silverado keys in hand, I feel like I'm living out Chevy's "This Is Our Country, This Is Our Truck" TV and Internet ad campaign. Despite a recent housing boom, the Central Valley is still the real deal -- farms, cows and lots of pickup trucks...
Unlike many of Inside Line's higher-end or sporty long-term vehicles, the Chevy Silverado seems right at home at the local DIY box or in my driveway. (I actually counted yesterday -- every fourth house in my neighborhood has a pickup parked in front of it.) A couple neighbors have even come by to check it out and peek underneath the hood. If there's an American Midwest of California, our Silverado is now in it.

I lived in Fresno for four years and that is certainly Chevy truck country. Cute city, but very traditional compared to the rest of California. It's amazing how a four hour drive from LA can seem like a world away. Hope you're enjoying the 'no!
