2007 Toyota Camry Brings Hope to the West Coast

One thing Barry failed to mention about driving our long-term Toyota Camry from Detroit to LA was that he was transporting a large piece of furniture in the backseat during the whole trip.

It seems while visiting my family in Michigan, someone (let's call her Grandma) thought Barry's cross-country drive was a good opportunity to move the hope chest my shop teacher-father made for me when I graduated from high school in 1987.

The chest measures 36" x 21" x 23".

We live in a small beach apartment.

There was a reason it was left in Grandma's basement...

I'm going to bet that chest is kinda heavy, which makes the fuel economy figures that much more impressive.

Chill bro, its just a thought. No need to attack Roar02

Besides, maybe the chest was full. It could have weighed like 300lbs, or roughly the average of one American, no? The "average" American certainly can deride fuel efficiency, no dobut.

alpha, ur right. Sorry about that Roar 02, i am not a 300 pound guy (more like 140, very thin) but i could see how a full chest could lead to lower fuel economy. Especially with the editors driving in a "spirited" fashion.

Uh, obviously missed an in-between moment comment here. I guess that means it's a good thing I didn't post that first. But I had the *exact* same thought when I read this blog entry yesterday. It doesn't take much extra weight to drop fuel economy in a significant (aka noticable) manner. The same can also be said for going the other direction- take some pounds out of the vehicle and it will do better.

The chest, to my chagrin, contained the following:
1 antique crocheted bed spread
1 antique crocheted table cloth
2 small plastic Indian dolls
1 large Polish doll wearing an interesting head dress
1 clothespin doll
1 hand-quilted bedspread in Royal Purple

Oh, and a small statue of Santa Claus wearing a turquoise(????) suit.

Welcome to my world.

Hehe. That's actually pretty cool Kelly. Heirlooms that express our family heritage nearly always are. ;-)
