2007 Nissan Altima: A Little Maintenance Required

Plastic shifter surround has dropped

A night in my favorite long termer showed a few spots that could use a little attention either by us or the next time we stop by the dealer.

  • The plastic shield of sorts that rests just inside the shifter casing that prevents gunk from dropping into the shifter's inner workings has, well, dropped into the shifter's inner workings.
  • The brake pedal clicks when lightly pressed, and then squeaks like a mouse when lightly depressed. It doesn't affect braking performance, it's just mildly irritating...

    Dust Off chamois at work

    • The navigation touchscreen was getting pretty grubby. Fingerprints covered every millimeter and it looked like someone rested a Diet Coke can on it without a coaster (I suspect it was a suction cup from someone ironically trying out one of the many aftermarket nav systems we have in the office at the moment). This was a quick fix, so I grabbed my Falcon Dust Off LCD screen chamois from my personal car. This inexpensive solution doesn't require any sprays or anything like that, and by applying light pressure, the Altima's nav screen looked brand new. I highly suggest getting a Dust Off if you have an LCD touchscreen in your car. I purchased mine at Best Buy for under $15.

I like the microfiber lens cleaning cloths for my lcd screens, glasses and camera lens and you can get a two pack for around $5.
