2007 Mitsubishi Outlander: MMCS, Part One

MMCS - Brent Romans

"MMCS, Part One" has been dutifully submitted as this week's most boring blog post title. Really, I wanted to type "Lindsay Lohan crashes into jail and frees Paris Hilton in daring prison escape!" But it wouldn't fit.

MMCS stands for "Mitsubishi Multi Communication System" and it groups together a hard-drive based navigation system, a Rockford Fosgate audio system and a surprising number of additional features. Though we've touched on MMCS in various earlier reports, I've had the opportunity to play around with our Outlander's MMCS for the past week and come up with a detailed report.

Getting MMCS
Available on the Outlander's XLS trim level only, MMCS requires one to order the Luxury Package, the Sun & Sound Package and the Navigation Package. Totaled, that's $4,980.

The MMCS Components

  • Navigation system running off of a 30GB hard drive
  • 7-inch LCD screen with touch interface
  • Sirius satellite radio
  • Single-slot CD/DVD/MP3/WMA player
  • A "Music Server" with Gracenote software. The Music Server is essentially one-third of the hard-drive that can be used to store digital music files ripped from inserted CDs. The Gracenote software automatically adds artist and title information.
  • RCA port for connecting MP3 players or video devices
  • Trip computer with a graphical three-hour display log of fuel economy and speed
  • Lap time counter (for when you're doing hot laps at Laguna Seca, naturally.)
  • Calendar with anniversary function
  • Maintenance tracker
  • Bluetooth connectivity for phones
  • Altimeter and temp gauge with three-hour tracking
  • 650-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system with customizable equalizer and processed sound fields
  • Functional adjustment of Vehicle systems, such as wipers, turn stalks, lighting

I'll follow up next week with details about how well (or poorly) MMCS works.

Brent,

FYI: You can get the Navi as a dealer installed accessory for $2,190 MSRP, without getting the other packages (Luxury and Sun&Sound) as implied in your post.
I hope you RTFM before you post your impressions on MMCS.

I initially thought the bottom left photo was a back-up camera, and became concerned that Brent was living in some sort of horribly crime-ridden neighborhood. Seeing as the Outlander doesn't have a back-up camera, I guess it's just a DVD.

Brent's getting held up by a hot chick with super kung fu moves.
