2007 Cadillac SRX: Details could use some work

This Cadillac gets most of the important stuff right. Plenty of room, smooth V6 and all the features you would expect in a $45K luxury crossover vehicle. There are details, however, that could use a little work. I noticed this misaligned rocker switch over the weekend...
At first I thought the bezel was just loose, but nope, it's on there good and crooked. This wouldn't be a big deal if it was out of the way, but it's one of the first things you see when you get in on the passenger side. If this SRX cost $30K it would be unfortunate but acceptable. For $45K, it needs to be perfect.

I also noticed the suspension creaking Dan mentioned last week. It makes the SRX sound much older than its nearly 13,000 miles would suggest. Mileage isn't one of its strong points either. The last tank returned only 17.3mpg and most of the miles were on the highway. Still looks good though.

If by "looks good" you mean "fugly", then yes. :p

I've seen that button the outboard side of the front passenger seat rail trim cover. Didn't press it - power lumbar support maybe? I remember thinking that it looked really tacked on. Details, details.

Pictographs are un-American. Our culture does not tolerate such a thing.
Go back to Japan or Egypt if you like well labeled, intuitive pictographs.
Precision alignment is also un-American. You people worry about such little things.

Well can your Japanese car haul and tow and not break if I accidentally swing a toolbox into it?
The Cadillac SRX can haul 311 lb more than the RX, and tows 750 lb more than the RX. The Cadillac SRX also looks just as good after you accidentally swing a toolbox into it. Eat that Lexus.
Outselling the SRX 4 to 1... what are people thinking...

"Pictographs are un-american"-- My new favoritest blog-post ever!

Apparently, rich people would rather drive a jelly bean than a box. Some online review of the SRX claimed the RX had 20 more cu feet of storage, which I seriously doubt.

See Mar 1 post for American pictographs.

"Maximum Luggage Capacity 32.4 cu.ft. 38.3 cu.ft."

SRX vs. RX350 respectively

And once you fold the seats down?

70 cu.ft. versus 85 cu. ft.

That's something I wasn't aware of.
According to www.lexus.com and www.cadillac.com, it's true, the RX has 15.2 more cubic feet of cargo room.

That is easy to understand, once you see the Cadillac's American styled long hood, taking up a good length of the car.
Space hogging RWD too.
But the SRX does maintain its 311 lb higher cargo load, despite having less room. What if you decide to haul a bronze statue? What will you do with an RX?

Yes, in America, it's all about who can haul more.
The Cadillac is the best. And the hood! you gotta love the hood!

No need to argue, Edmunds provides visual proof.

The SRX is simply narrow all the way, camouflaging the wheel bulges.
Whereas the RX chooses to have wheel bulges only.

Most American vehicles have thicker door structures than the Japanese models, resulting in a wider exterior, but narrower interior.
The SRX is true to this.

The Cadillac SRX is smaller than the Lexus RX
It's a Small-RX. Huh. Huh.

Would you buy the Japanes vehicle if it cost $25,000 more?
That's what they do in Japan .. they put a $25,000 tarrif on every Caddy.

Also notice that all Caddys have stainless steel exhaust.. and full Galvanized bodies. Its funny to see Mercedes advertising stailess steel exhaust on some of its models... while the Chevy Cobalt has had stainless steel exhaust all along. Maybe someday the Japanese and Germans will catch up to GM and start offering galvanised bodies and stainless steel exhaust.. but don't bet on it.

What would be a more significant feature about the rocker switch would be how many cycles it is rated.. not that a digital camera can detect a insignificant difference in clearance from one side to the other.
