Mercedes R500: Load Up the Babies

After nearly a week with our R500 I've noticed that with one third row seat folded up and the other folded down (they're arranged in a 50/50 split) you can comfortably accommodate 5 passengers and plenty of cargo. Congratulations, you've just invented the Dodge Magnum... or E-Class wagon or any number of sedans that can do the same exact thing but with sharper handling and a lower price tag.

However, what many of those sedans and wagons don't offer is a second row that's big enough to hold a rear facing baby seat without forcing the front seat occupant (in this case the 6' 1" driver) to hug the dash all the way to grandma's house...

Plus, the R's second row buckets slide back and forth and the resulting extra legroom is great for those rare occasions when mommy and daddy get to go somewhere with two other adults and, get  this, no kids!  It's a crazy thought, I know.
