Daily updates on our fleet of cars and trucks

2007 Chevy Silverado LT -- Pickup Artist

Recently I was tasked with moving a rather odd Christmas gift from my parents' house to my brother's house: a 3-person air hockey table. (See photo.) Since I'm fortunate enough to work for a company with a fleet of useful vehicles of all shapes and sizes, I lassoed the Chevy Silverado from our test garage and headed out. I am primarily a sedan/sports car driver, having owned a series of Alfa Romeos and BMWs through my life, and definitely not the pickup type. But I had heard good things and figured this was a good opportunity to have some real-world pickup experience.  I found the handling confident and secure, the sight lines were solid, even the turning radius was pretty good. The crew cab configuration allowed me to carry my brother and his sons with ease, although the boys kept badgering me with "Can we ride in the bed?" When I replied, "Do you want your uncle to lose his job and/or go to jail?" my very earnest nephew replied, "What do I care?..

I'm 8." Needless to say he was carefully belted in the back, although I resisted the urge to put a sock in his mouth (to prevent him from biting his tongue when we hit a bump, of course). While I still have no interest in owning a pickup truck, I think the Silverado's a fine choice for anyone who needs to do regular hauling. And I really dug the push-botton control for opening the rear window (seeing as it's a crew cab). Cool.
