Honda Civic Si: Interior Durability

Honda Civic Si -- Brent RomansOur 2006 Honda Civic Si is nearing 19,000 miles now. Though this isn't enough mileage to truly judge durability, I did examine the Civic's interior to see if I could find any future problem areas. Overall, it all looks pretty good. The seat fabric is still in fine condition and all of the little rubber nubs on the alloy pedals are still intact...

The only noticeably wearing item is the shift knob -- it's metallic top has few minor pits and scratches on it now. On the move, there's one intermittent rattle emanating somewhere from the rear-seat area.

i've got that same rattle in the rear... it sounds like the right rear seat isn't latched correctly from being folded down, although i've never folded it down.
as for the shift knob... well i had that same know on my S2000 and learned long ago that it's prone to easy scratching, and i run a voodoo now because of it. :)

i've actually heard of this rattle problem before, and heard of it blamed on different things, the seats, the licence plate, the spoiler, I'd be really interested to know if you could pinpoint it.

i've been trying to track this rattle for a day or two now, and i can't pin it down. not the license plate, unlatched and relatched the rear seats, that's not it... checked the speakers, nope. trunk hinge and hardware, no... and what's scary is that the noise seemed to migrate to the driver's side tonight. nothing's loose and moving around in the trunk (nothing in there). the only thing i'm thinking is, like some other stiffer cars i've owned (STi, Z), as the temp goes down, things contract slightly and allow for little squeaks and rattles. i've only had the '07 for a week, and i'd like to see if, like the subaru and nissan, this car quiets down in terms of random noises as the weather gets warmer.
i'm running out of ideas here. i'm torn between turning up the radio (and waiting til spring) and letting the dealer have at it.

lightning 73 id be very interested to hear the story of how you went from a Z and an sti to an si as well as how you feel it compares. I know those other cars are brutes, but I feel in the new age of horsepower where 300 is just sporty people are getting out of hand and forgetting that feel is most importaint on US roads.

Hey guys I'm pretty sure the ratle comes from the rear deck. I removed the rear deck and the noise is gone. I'm going to put some type of insulation between the rear deck and the car. Here is alink with more info, although they say is the clips that hold the deck that are not installed correctly, but I have my doubts because all my pins where prefectly installed when I saw them. http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3072
