We scheduled an appointment with Mercedes-Benz of Signal Hill to address the "perform service A" warning that appeared on the IP display. The service consisted of changing the oil and filter, topping off fluids and basic visual inspections. It also involved inspection of the extensive electrical components used in the R-Class, which according to our advisor accounts for much of the cost.
There were 2 service campaigns out on our R-Class that were also addressed during this visit: (1) Removal of excess coating from the selector gear "intelligent servo motor"; and, (2) Retrofit a shim between the front exhaust system bracket and transmission...

Did you actually have to pay the $179.36 for the service? I paid no extra and have completely free maintenance on my 2004 S500. I thought the 3-year bumper to bumper warranty should have covered all costs for the first three years.
