Mercedes-Benz R500: backside comfort

In a prior blog, I mentioned the tendency of the R500's seats to smash my rump during long trips. Looks like I'm not alone. Last weekend's trip to the 24 Hours of Lemons (yes, lemons, not LeMans) with five other passengers drew similar complaints. Third-row occupants in particular commented on the R500's leather-covered bricks...

It's not that the seats are shaped poorly--on the contrary, they are quite supportive. It's just that the seat firmness which feels great around town becomes unrelenting after four hours in the saddle. Maybe my crew and I just need to put some junk in our trunks.

I think this is a trait of all Mercedes seats, not just the R class. The seats are hard by design.

You are going to write about the 24 Hours of Lemons, right?

I had the right car (and no attachment to it), but I can't spend that kind of money on safety equipment so I sat out. I hope it was fun!
