Driving home last night in rush hour traffic I noticed that every vehicle around me was either gray or silver, including the Pewter Metallic R500 I was driving.
I miss the days of cool paint colors like Plum Crazy. But cars don't have to be swathed in wild hues. What's wrong with a nice calm blue or a racy red?
Put some color into your lives, people...

When I went car shopping my only color requirement was "not silver, not gray". My current car is "electric red". But supposedly the new Elantra will have a purple option that's making me think about trading up...

I'm part of the problem =/. I told myself "no silver whatsoever," but I was buying used and the best-condition used Miata I found was gray. Sometimes I feel bad about that... there was an orange Mazdaspeed Miata I could've bought for $6k more, too.
But for many cars (including the Miata in 2002) there aren't many bright colors at all. Some of it sel-perpetuating to... if you're the only red car on the freeway and everyone's driving at 80mph, guess who the cops will notice first.

The first new car I bought was "Wild Strawberry," which was a deep, metallic red. Now I drive a dark gray car and my husband drives a blue gray car, but I was very seriously considering getting the "Kiwi Metallic" Honda Element.

carlisimo: Oh, but 2002 was one of the most vividly colorful years for the Miata! Vivid Yellow... Blazing Yellow Mica... Laser Blue... Crystal Blue Mica... Classic Red... All of the bright colors were offered along with the less vivid colors (silver, titanium, black, white, etc.) for a total of 11 colors in all. It was like a box of Crayola crayons exploded!
But don't feel bad. My '06 Miata is Brilliant Black with the saddle tan leather interior and top, while my previous '04 Mazdaspeed Miata was Titanium Gray with the black leather (with bright red stitching) and top, so I guess I'm not helping. My preference is Classic Red with the tan interior and top, but they stopped producing that combination after 2002.

Yellow was my first choice. One of them was offered with the same Special Edition package that I have, and the other was a special order. Laser Blue was a special order too. So they were rare and I couldn't find any for sale.
I did find Crystal Blue Mica, which looks like the color on my old beater Sentra that I did not like. And 2001 British Racing Green - too flat and un-alive for me, since it's close to a military olive. Garnet Red... too pinkish/purple. Lots of light silver cars for sale too. That's life as a used car buyer. But I really like the brown leather seats and how they go with the gray. It reminds me of a scene out of a James Bond novel; his cars were battleship gray.

Silver looks pretty good even when you haven't washed it for a year. I've always had a bright red car in the stable for the last 25 years though. Never had a speeding ticket either, Carlisimo (knocking wood!).

I agree. Silver is sooo 1999.

I have a Velocity red hatch Mazda3. I love it and get complements too.
Big luxury cars look nice on the giver/gray/gold colors but the small ones, yuck.
I hate those gray MINIs. Its the Californians, who are so obsessed about Grey/ Silver.

desmo... I would have if I had gone with the Element. Volvos don't come in such exciting colors.
