After only one night in our long term Cadillac SRX I have to say, I'm really likin' this thing. It felt good to be in a domestic car I didn't have to apologize for. Sure it's expensive, but at least they got it right. And I even liked it after getting off to a bad start with it...
I have to say, I don't think I've ever been in seats that had such good lateral support. Seems to me that lateral support is one of those things you can't have too much of (unless there's so much you can't get out of the car). It makes you feel so secure and actually helps you drive better since you don't slop around behind the wheel. Really, the interior is so nice I think it competes with a Lexus.
The SRX also passed my grab handle test. Most domestics don't believe in grab handles even though they are useful and an inexpensive feature. This Caddy put them where they belong, above each door. Older drivers will be thankful every time they lower themselves into the ultra-comfy seats.
The ride is firm for a luxury SUV and the engine gives you the best of both worlds -- it's nice and quiet if you are mellow but it growls when you goose it. Spiraling down an off ramp, it leaned more than I would have liked but it has good steering feel. Brakes are a bit mushy, though.
Am I imagining things, or does the Cadillac shield repeat itself as a design motive throughout the cabin? Take a look at the photo and see if there are a few things that look like the lordly shield. Here's a little more about what the Cadillac emblem (http://home.iag.net/~middlebr/crest.html) means.
