I'm not going to get in the middle of the raging debate over what this vehicle is actually called, but needless to say it's a fun little some-na-gun. During the past week, I've used this guy for driving school, transportation to a GM event and an average sunny weekend around LA. In every case, the "happiness with car" metric rises as a function of time. Er, I mean, car gooder as more drivie. This relationship is inversely proportional in the case of the Solstice...
Even after being jammed into this two-seater with our famed copy editor/funk provider Doug Lloyd all the way to Monterey, I like it. Even after forgetting where the gas tank door release was located for the eighth time. Even after not having space to haul a mere pack of coffee back from a trip to Orange County. Even after being shamed by my dogg Micah's S2000 as it drifted like a pro all over Torrance while the Miata/MX-5 sat confused and bewildered by the display...
After all this...the transmission is solid, the acceleration is solid, the stereo is solid, the roof design is solid, the handling is solid. What's not to like? The styling isn't what I'd call inspiring...but oh well. It's a car that you can live with on a daily basis and transform into a beachy cruiser from time to time.
If forced to compare this car to cake, I'd say it's like the standard chocolate frosted yellowcake reserved for birthdays 3 through 13...but this cake has those little sprinkles inside to provide a flash of joy right when you need it.
