Jeep Commander: Tree Rated

The Commander may be many things, but I can say with authority that it is in fact Tree Rated, as it fits (barely) through the famous Drive-Thru Tree in California's Humboldt Redwoods.  Okay, the mirrors had to be folded in, and we had less than an inch on each side at times, but it squeezed through.

Day two of our Oregon-bound adventure was a bit slower-paced, as we headed into the redwood forests.  One reason for the slow down was, of course, the plethora of interesting things to see and do along the way.

We had a close call with some loudmouth kid from Colorado.

We had trouble getting the kids out of this treehouse and back into the Jeep.

Skipping stones is a perennial favorite.

Another reason for the slowdown was the winding nature of the mountain highways and the Jeep's penchant for body roll in addition to yesterday's bounding body motion.  My passengers complained of the queasy uneasies unless I kept my corner speeds quite pedestrian.  About 5 mph below the speed limit on highway 101 seemed to do the trick.

Day 2 tally: 298.6 miles of mountain roads and highways; 20.4 gallons added in two stops; 14.6 miles per gallon; $69.02 fuel cost.
