Honda Accord Hybrid meets Mystic's Stamp Showcase

As I sit here in my hotel room reading Mystic's Stamp Showcase, the leading publication for philatelists, I can't help but reflect on my 400 mile day in our long term Honda Accord Hybrid. Truth be told, I can't decide which is more thrilling, reading about the Grinnell Hawaiian Missionaries first appearance on the philatelic scene in 1920, or driving our beige on beige Accord from Los Angeles to the Monterey Peninsula.

So it isn't a thrill a minute, but the Accord proved comfortable and competent for 400 nonstop miles. That's right, nonstop...

The Accord made it on one tank of regular and you've got to respect that kind of range. This thing is a good road tripper. From its well shaped seats to its XM radio, the Honda is proving to be just the right ride for our run to Laguna Seca for a weekend of vintage auto racing.

Funny how the only people who like this car are the ones that don't let it stop.

Funny how the Historics are Aug. 18-20, yet this post went up on Aug. 16. Hmmm...

What's funnier is that I routinely exceeded 400 miles in the 2004 Malibu LT V6 non-hybrid. That was a >500 mile tripper per tank. ;-)

My 2002 Volvo S60 recently made it from San Francisco to LA and around town on one tank. That was over 500 miles! I was astounded. Have fun at the Historics.

Yet none of the cars mentioned has 240+ horsepower either.

not to mention tank size is also not mentioned, also he said he made it on a tank, not that it took the whole tank, but he made it within the tank, he could still have another 10galons in there for all we know.

True. But the Malibu still had over 200hp and I believe it weighed a bit less. Either way we're talking about an irrelevent point- if I'm after a daily family vehicle that is good for long trips 240 vs. 160 doesn't matter all that much.

Now, if like you I am trying to race my car in the off days I might care. But then I wouldn't be looking at the hybrid anyway. :D

The Accord Hybrid has a 16.7 gallon tank, and at the 37-38 mpg highway I usually get it is easily capable of getting 600 miles on a tank of fuel.
