Pontiac Solstice's CD Changer Doesn't Change CDs

2006 Pontiac Solstice audio system - Erin Riches

One final anecdote from my weekend trip to Monterey: I kept a full load of CDs in the Solstice's in-dash changer at all times, but it would never go from one CD to the next. Whenever it got to the last track on disc 6, it would simply start disc 6 over again instead of going to disc 1. Same thing if it finished playing disc 3, for example -- it would never go to disc 4.

I consulted the owner's manual to see if the system was stuck in some kind of repeat mode, but as far as I can tell, the Solstice's stereo doesn't have such a feature...

(It does have a "random" mode, accessed by the "RDM" soft key shown in the photo above.) If someone out there who owns a GM vehicle with this head unit and a CD changer can enlighten me on this matter, that would be wonderful. Otherwise, we'll probably bring it to the dealer's attention the next time the car goes in for service. (We had a similar issue with the CD changer in the 2007 Cadillac Escalade we tested , though that car had a different head unit because it was equipped with the navigation system.)

In unrelated news, my neighbors' cats like to sleep on all the test cars I bring home -- I get home late so my cars stay warm longer. Convertibles are particularly vulnerable. Last night, while in one my typically absent-minded moods, I forgot to redo the latch on the Solstice's top. This created a "hammock" for one lucky kitty and said feline was still there when it was time to go to work this morning. Much hissing ensued when the eviction process began.
