The Honda Civic Si as a runabout for the city? Fun. The Si as a canyon carver? Funner!..
The Si's sporty seats did a real number on my back during that 800-or-so-mile roundtrip to Sacramento. And my passenger complained that he couldn't get his seat adjusted to a position comfortable enough where he could catch some Zs during the drive. At the end of the trip, I was this close to booking an appointment with a masseuse.
With regards to the Si's cruise control function, I was happy to see that it had the same feature as the 330i's in that you can set your cruising speed and decrease and increase your speed with the push of a button. However, I found that it wasn't as responsive as the BMW's. It was slow to speed up and slow to power down. In the end, I just skipped using that function altogether because I didn't trust it.
Not that I didn't appreciate the Si's ability to haul my luggage and get me to my destination quickly and safely. Just that I'd think twice about picking it for a loonng road trip.

Caroline what do you expect on a sport coupe? you don't take Mazda Miata or NIssan 350Z for a long trip. Your just asking to have a aching back. Your so funny, picking on something that is not what it suppose to be. Sport coupe is not for comfort if you want comfort then take sedan. Si is the best sport coupe under $20K and its build for speed not for comfort. So please give us something useful info. not something everyone knows. I LOVE MY 2006 HONDA SI!

True. But since I myself love the Si and have never heard anyone say anything bad about it, I thought it would be a good all-around car, too. Turns out I was wrong but not in an extremely wrong kind of way. Yes, the seats were uncomfortable but if I was an Si owner, I'd learn to live with it. BTW, does EVERYONE know about the lazy cruise control?

Oh guess what, cklsports, this was useful information. I took a Civic Si test vehicle (the blue one from the full road test) to Vegas and back last fall and thought it was great. No aching back. Plenty of room of me, our videographer, all my coffees and all his equipment. But I can't speak for everyone. And I think it's important that Caroline shared her experience... not everything about this car is terrific and it's good for prospective buyers to be aware of any potential deficiencies (or just things they may not like) before getting themselves into several years of monthly payments.

I call phooey on the " what do you expect on a sport coupe?" line. She had to try it out, no? It may be a sport coupe, but it's still a Honda, yo.
For my part, I took my Si -- loaded with me, my mom, and associated bags and gifts -- to Phoenix, AZ from San Diego, CA about two months ago and it performed like a champ. Of course, I hogged all the driving duties, but hey! it's still my new car. Hee.
And that's all I have to say about that.

TO dotsara. "phooey" "yo" LOL! You trying to be cute and getto at the same time? I made my point due to Caroline compared Honda Civic Si with BMW 330i(remember one cost less than $20000 vs. $40000) its not a fair comparsion. That is why I said what do you expect sport coupe vs. sedan on a long trip. You guys should read what she said first. I just don't think 2006 HONDA CIVIC SI is build for comfort. If you buy a SI for the comfort not for the speed then I think you got the wrong car to begin with. SI is not a normal Civic it got 197HP if you want comfort with that, then hmmmm. why don't you get SRT-4 or SS S/C and see how comfortable those cars feel? Sports coupe don't come with comfort it come with SPEED/POWER.

I did read what she wrote, thanks. And she prefaced her remarks by saying that she'd just come off another trip w/ the BMW. Your original comment/reaction didn't address her disclosure, though; frankly it sounded like you were going after her just for taking the Si on a road trip. That's what I was calling you on.The last that I'm going to say on the subject is that the Si may not have been built with comfort as the #1 goal, but knowing Honda: it wasn't an afterthought, either. I'm willing to bet it was a pretty big consideration.

You should read it again. Am i going after anyone her?!? and was my first comment address to you? (only the sceond one). I don't like people bashing about something or compare something that is way off. I mean a $20000 sport coupe to a $40000+ sedan, you kidding me? Honda did not build the Si for comfort but they did build ex,lx,dx for that. I don't like it when people think Honda Civic its all base around Si not other model. I bet Caroline won't have aching back if she had a ex,lx or dx for her long trip. Too bad edmund don't have other model only the Si for editors to drive around. Again, Si is not build for comfort it for Speed/Power. If you don't like these two then don't buy it, just get a ex or lx or even dx. And Caroline you should compare the Si with Miata see how does it feel going on a long trip.

Haha; I wasn't trying to change your mind or even prove you wrong. If that's how I came off, I apologize. I was only trying to express how your comments seemed/sounded/appeared *to me*, specifically. I'll state that more clearly next time.
Additionally: who ever said anything about thinking the Si was the style on which the others were built? That's just.. no, I never thought that. I'm going to go ahead and bet that Caroline didn't, either.

Well, that's fine, but that's what she had available to her to work with, right? Perhaps she *would* have prefered a comparable car to the Si for a road trip instead of the 330, but... she... didn't. So. Here we are.
Moving on.

I'm actually here not to comment on the seats but the cruze control. I'm not sure if the cruse is the lazy bit persay, but rather the engine. Power is created up top, so when driving at highway speeds, comparitively the power you get seems, sort of low. Now it still squeezes about 100 of its hp out at the number on the tach, but thats only half of its potential, so perhaps a downshift would be in order if you're looking to gain speed real quickly.

Just wanted to comment on the cruise control. Some of us have found it easier to tap the cruise control rather than to hold it. It's a bit more responsive that way.
