Accord vs. Accord, our long termers face off

Last week we drove our long-term Accord Hybrid to Las Vegas to help support a photo shoot. Mileage varied, but during the roughly 300 miles of mostly wide open highway driving it delivered roughly 28mpg, not bad for a V6 sedan with such solid power. The drive reminded me of another trip to Vegas a couple years ago.
At the time we had a nearly identical long term Accord sedan, but instead of a hybrid V6 drivetrain it was a plain old four-cylinder with a sticker price of about $23,000. I went back and checked the fuel log for the car to see how stacked up. According to our records it recorded around 29mpg during the same trip. Kind of makes you wonder if paying nearly $33,000 for the hybrid is worth the cost.

Uh, that's pretty lousy mileage for a newer car. I've run to Vegas many times in my 330i averaging 100 mph+ and still returned 30+ mpg.

I'd choose the 4 cylinder 5-speed manual EX over the Hybrid any day. the 4 cylinder gets better MPG, although with much less power, and there is not a sunroof available in the Hybrid. Easy choice for me.

The 2006 Accord Hybrid comes with a sunroof. And how in the world can you do 100mph+ and get 30MPG?

hondacura4, used to do it all the time in my 03 e46 330i. The tall sixth gear actually made for better mileage at speeds above 75.

This past april driving across europe I averaged well over 110 (runs above 140 mph for miles at a time) and still got 25 mpg. The tall gearing and the efficiency of the inline 6 at ease is amazing.
