At first I thought this bigger Jeep would be too big. But really it feels a bit more managable than most full size SUVs. For me, that makes it much more useful since I can let my wife drive it without worrying that it's too big for her - plus I find I don't dread going to certain parts of town that are more crowded the way I might if I were driving something like a Chevy Tahoe.

It shares the same wheelbase as the Grand Cherokee. There may be a bit more rear overhang, and it is much boxier, but I bet it's really not that much larger (length/width/height) than the GC.

Commander & GC have a 109" wheelbase, and the Tahoe wheelbase is around 116" IIRC. So the Commander is a smaller vehicle than the Tahoe, or at least I would think it is. Certainly the shorter wheelbase should mean a tighter turning circle.

I think the Commander's slightly smaller size is a real asset. My guess is that people in big cities who need an SUV feel the same way.

I'm real curious how the new Commander compares with the new Chrysler Aspen, which will be sitting next to one another on the showroom floor.
I can't help but think that they will be cross-shopped by customers—probably much more so than the competitors from GM, Ford and Japan. Makes you kinda wonder what the DC product planners were thinking...
